In her successful attempt to appeal to working class primary voters, Senator Hillary Clinton has been catching heat from Wall Street. The Sun notes that yesterday, her camp dawdled for 24 hours before correcting reports that she had asked an audience in Indiana: “Why don’t we hold these Wall Street money-grubbers responsible for their role in this recession?” The quote angered some in the financial industry; after all they're not money-grubbers, they're money-hoarders.
Clinton's team belatedly explained that she'd referred to them as money-brokers, but long before correcting the misquote, Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson made a distinction about the grubbers in question: When asked by the Sun to explain why so many of Clinton's campaign contributors are Wall Street money-grubbers, and that her daughter Chelsea works at a hedge fund, Wolfson said, "'Our supporters aren’t the grubbers.'"
Humbug, says Charles Payne, one offended Wall Street CEO: “If America is still the land of milk and honey it’s because the fertilizer comes from Wall Street. There is something wrong when it’s okay to make $100 million for giving speeches, yet when you help to facilitate the growth of America, which in turn employs millions of people, you can be a villain if you are paid too well.”

With any luck Obama will end it tonight.
"...yet when you help to facilitate the growth of America, which in turn employs millions of people, you can be a villain if you are paid too well."
hah! what he should have said is ...when you repeatedly bilk the american public, benefit from unprecedented tax breaks, and then cry to the federal government for bailouts when you fuckup, you can be a villain if you are paid to well. to which i say, goddamn right you are!
the clintons are scumbags too though, so he's got a point there
he's right about the fertilizer part if he's trying to say wall street shits on america
This is like a pot calling a kettle black.
Both are as bad as each other.
This is also the woman who supported the Bear Stearns bailout.
Who can keep track anymore? Clinton changes the goal posts whenever she feels like it. I'm constantly amazed what a half-assed campaign she is running.
Amen. But, lacking anything real to report, this story is another suckass detail.
Some people didn't like something that Hillary didn't actually say. Oh, but wait, they took a whole day to figure out she was being misquoted. Whoop-de-doo.
Who f*cking cares? The woman wants to give away your taxes to subsidize fat f*cks to drive around endlessly in their SUVs.
I think we have a real political issues to talk about here. God forbid we focus on it. Just because you have a right to a free press doesn't mean you actually get to use it. What's Britney Spears doing? That's important, right?
"...yet when you help to facilitate the growth of America, which in turn employs millions of people, you can be a villain if you are paid too well."
Reminds me of an ass't prof who used to go on and on about the "obscene" salaries of business execs... but when I questioned him, he thought there was nothing wrong with a professional athlete or a rock star making millions. But a person who runs a business that employs thousands and adds positively to the American economy? Oh, no! God forbid! Remember, almost every one of these execs are honest... the board hires them at those huge salaries. Any one of us would jump to take a job for that kind of money.
Listening to most college professor's opinions is like taking a free course in socialism/communism. Those who can't do, teach, and the worst of the lot get tenure.
"...yet when you help to facilitate the growth of America, which in turn employs millions of people, you can be a villain if you are paid too well."
Oh please. That's the most laughable quote I've heard in a long time. I'm less concerned about what they make, make all the money you want, but please PLEASE don't try to tell me you are somehow "helping America" by being a greedy bastard.
#8 and #9 are examples of mindless sheep who are mesmerized by capitalist propaganda. These "wall street types" don't add any value to our society. They are leeches. As #2 said, they exploit workers, corrupt governmental processes to ensure that they don't have to pay fair taxes, they put smaller companies out of business, conglomerate the media so as to stifle any public critique of their actions, then when their houses of cards collapse they get bailed out by the politicians they have bought.
And a special heartfelt fuck you goes out to #9, whose disdainful comments about teachers are truly disgusting. This culture of willful ignorance that you embrace is largely responsible for our current situation: unprecedented debt, losing a war of choice, the brink of environmental disaster, and the widest gap ever between rich and poor. You really should go back to school and learn something.
Wall St. won't be missed.
#11 - He has a point about teachers, though. Just look at Berkeley.
this is when I'm truly thankful Pb is still cheap.
Who is John Galt?
Hillary Clinton uses the simple-minded and weak to push her agenda. If the Clintons are so against the way Wall Street, why is Chelsea working for a hedge fund. This bi-partison shit creates a lose/lose situation for American citizens. Vote for McCain, you might as well be voting for 8 more years with Dub. Vote Democrat, and see Socialism disguised as socioeconomic equality. We are fugged.
We've experienced the Wild West Economy under the current D.C. frauds. It's not pretty. Hopefully, we'll have an adult keeping track of the CEO's and brokers who've clearly shown they can't control themselves.
People like Charles Payne will still be making tons of money if Hillary is ever elected president. I'm not losing sleep tonight over his plight.
Oh, and #8, don't put CEO's on pedestals like you seem to be doing. Just leave it as "most" CEO's are honest.
Like CEOs actually care about their employees. They take out small business, get laws passed which benefit them and not the public or anyone else and when it comes time for lower then expected earnings they fired you and tell you go on your merry way.
I think a Wall Streeters = Parasites that Bleed America Dry is a more fitting analogy.
charlie p. doesn't know what he's talking about. the production of milk and honey does not rely upon fertilizer in an integral manner. second, the production of milk and honey would likely be conducted at two separate farms, as bees and cows don't really co-habitate very well. the binary he presents should not hold as an incorporated interest. and upon final consideration, one may come to agree that as milk and honey both function in effective home-made fertilizer solutions, the ceo's metaphor is totally fucked.
