i've always been a big fan of 11th street bar on 11th street between avenues a and b. it is laid back atmosphere, never pretentious, and never overcrowded.

it's not in my neighborhood, but i've always like the white horse tavern in the west village. closer to me, i like MUG's in williamsburg.

one of my fav places is hanger bar on 3rdst between c and b. Its a cool bar with a happy hour till 9 what more can you ask for

Loreley on the Lower East Side. Great beer, very reasonable prices, and an outdoor beer garden.

I've always favored Ace Bar in alphabet city. Skee Ball and Pool tables!

true New York still lives

7104 35th Ave
Jackson Heights in Queens

Everytime I go to NYC in the summer I hit up the Gowanus Lounge.

Somehow I can always get a seat and the beers overfloweth.

Def one of my favorite places.

matty, do you mean the gowanus yacht club?

Sheer sentimentality: it's gotta be the Grassroots Tavern on St. Mark's.

Getting drunk in a family-friendly atmosphere in Brooklyn: The Lighthouse Tavern on 5th Ave., Park Slope

Regularly Undisappointing: 7B, but everyone knows that.

Best Place to Accidentally Stumble into Future Employers and Co-workers: The Magician on rivington

Best Place to Feel Old and Drink Way too Much: Cherry Tavern in the East Village

Best Place to Meet the Bartender you're Crushing on While He or She is Not Working: Black & White in Gramercy

Best Place to Decide to Just End it All: Brady's on 82nd St. and 2nd Ave.

Loreley is a Lower East Side favorite of mine too.
Cubby Hole in the West Village.
Duck Duck in Williamsburg.

I always loved old town bar on 18th street
and Grassroots on St Marks street

The Marshall Stack on the Lower East Side. Great vibe, yummy snacks and a cool owner (Matt).

"matty, do you mean the gowanus yacht club?"

yes. sorry about that.

Hey, don't forget Local 138 on Ludlow. It may be the one of the few places left down that way that's not unbearably hip on weekends.

botanica, fish bar, lucy's, lolita, grassroots.

Local 138 is evil isn't it? Didn't they wait for the guys to establish themselves on the street and give them the boot once their lease was up, opening their own bar called Local 138?

Although, I should note, that the Night Cafe now falls into the nostalgia category.

No contest: Sunny's on Conover Street in Red Hook.

Harry Boland's, at 9th St and 5th Ave. in Park Slope, is one of the few NYC watering holes that can still legitimately be called a "neighborhood bar."

spuyten duyvil in williamsburg

Bar BQ in South Slope! YEAH!

Inwood

Piper's Kilt - Broadway btw 207 & 212 St.

Directions: A to 207. Exit at 207 & Broadway. Piper's Kilt located at 207 & Broadway.

Awesome burgers!

Cheap beer!

Three way tie:

1. Sunny's — Red Hook

2. Freddy's — Prospect Heights

3. Pete's Waterfront Alehouse — Brooklyn Heights

East Village-Blue&Gold. Love the pool table and juke. And cheap ass cold beers.

The Rainbow Room bar, the bar at the grill at the Four Season, the Carlyle, the bar at the Harvard Club

Definitely blue and gold in the east village. Love the pool table and juke. As well as the cold and cheap beer.

I will totally back up the Harry Boland's recommendation on 9th St. and 5th Ave. It's a neighborhood joint with a heterogenous crowd. The bar staff could not be better and the owner is a super nice guy. It's like going into an older NYC; it's awesome.

Montero's on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn Heights.

Truly old school. Circa 1940's neon sign out front, weathered interior, cheap beer and spirits, and never, never crowded.

And Charlie, the owner's son's dog, who is often in residence, is a good kisser.

Marshall Stack, for suds and snacks.

And during the summer, I'm a fan of the West Side Boat Basin. It's crowded and noisy, but it's right by the water.

Thread success. Can't wait for the map.

Thank you sponsored post!

There's only one correct answer here, and that's Vig Bar on Spring Street. That place is the Cheers of Nolita.

Runners up below Houston:
Milady's
Botanica
Puck Fair

1. Sonny's - Red Hook
2. Alibi - Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill
3. Mona's - Ave. B
4. Montero - Atlantic Ave.
5. Milano's - Houston St.

Problem is, barely a bar is left in NY that doesn't get over-run most nights by twerps.

The R Bar, on the corner of Graham and Meeker in Williamsburg. Owned and operated and populated by neighborhoods natives.
