Myrtle the Turtle Survives Paint Attack

Curbed is reporting on the latest victim of luxury condos: Myrtle the Turtle. Who's behind the act of animal cruelty? All fingers are pointing to the construction workers, who have the same shade of red paint on site at 5 Roebling Street. A neighbor, and friend of Myrtle the Turtle, wrote in:
It is obviously intentional because she got such a sustained spray that it has drip marks. The face and feet, as well. It is the exact color that the excavation people use on the 5 Roebling site to mark elevations on walls adjoining, so they know how deep to dig…The good news is that Myrtle is going to be okay! Her new guardian isn't having any luck returning her to her natural shade, however, so Gowanus Lounge is asking for tips on how to get thick paint off of a turtle shell.

What an allegory man. It's like WE'RE the turtles man. And the spray paint is like the condos springing up everywhere. It's the people who are getting painted on man! Stop painting me down!

This is how their world goes 'round.
Knowing a little about turtles, it is most important to get the paint off the skin first and shell second. I have heard of turtles with painted shells being ok, since their shell is made up of a material similar to human fingernails. I don't know the best method of removing the paint though.

That paint does NOT come off easily. A friend of mine got some on his leg (he was painting the sidelines at a football game - it's the same paint they use at construction sites) and, despite his incessant scrubbing, it took about 5 days for it to fully come off.
It's nice to see that people are angry about this. It's pretty sick. Poor turtle.

Take the turtle to the Bronx Zoo. I'm sure they can help. Call first, though.

It was probably some cruel meathead as assumed above, but it could be that this was done by someone who didn't want to see the turtle get squashed by some heavy equipment - a construction site is not a good place for a turtle, and a bright red coat of paint might have actually improved its odds. The fact that the head and feet were painted suggests that it was probably just some jerk though.
i hope they find the person that did this and spray paints him and his whole family if the fucker even has one.
