Yankees-Red Sox Rivalry Turns Murderous

soxyanks.jpgA Red Sox fan paid the ultimate price for his allegiance this weekend when he crossed paths with a Yankees fan in New Hampshire. Ivonne Hernandez, 43 years old and a Yankees fan, is charged with fatally running him over.

Hernandez, who was drinking at a Nashua, NH bar on Friday night, announced that she said she was a Yankees fan. The Boston Globe explains, "Nashua, 45 miles northwest of Boston, is Red Sox country."

A bartender says she got into a fight with some patrons that spilled outside. The group chanted "Yankees suck!" when they saw a Yankees sticker on Hernandez's car. The taunting apparently was too much for Hernandez; a prosecutor said, "She never braked, and she accelerated at a high speed for about 200 feet. She went directly at this group of people."

Matthew Beaudoin, 29, suffered massive head trauma and died at the hospital. Hernandez was charged with reckless second-degree murder and aggravated drunken driving.

TKaisen... sadly, we have not been above it all since 2003, though the feeling never really goes away.

Seriously, though, Chubby makes a point. If the allegiances were reversed I and many others would be calling for the death penalty and tossing around terms like "Fenway felons" rather liberally.

Somehow we've arrived at the point where every sports fan is an asshole (and a threat) except the ones that root for your team. Sad.

Two lives ruined due solely to mindless devotion to the exploits of overpaid man-children, many of whom could not care less about any of their fans, and more than none of whom are incapable of understanding that they even GET paid because of the fact that fans EXIST in the first place (Exhibit "A": Manny Ramirez). Yay, sports!

  • Dave Hogarty

Now gentlemen, do not make me murder one of you for being offensively pro-your-team. Because my team rules, and yours' are stupid.

  • babyhitler

24 - no way dude, my sports team is sooo much better.

  • sj

The sports team from my area is superior to the sports team from your area.

As someone who has had to occasionally sit through one of the 81 white trash conventions that Shea hosts every year, all I can say, CKNY, is "Hello, Pot. My name's Kettle."

Oh you are just so good and above it all aren't you?

  • chubbyonekanubby

As a lifetime Red Sox fan from NH and living in NYC, I understand that because I am in Yankee territory I am going to get shit for my allegiance, however I have the self control to keep anything from going beyond words. This idiot apparently didnt take geography in highschool and realize she was in Red Sox territory and took things way too far, and hopefully she spends the rest of her life in jail.

And I love how most of you are laughing at the fact that this guy died over nothing more then being a Red Sox fan, you're no better then the woman who killed him.

  • matty

As an outsider I think you're all fucking idiots for defending either party's behavior.

    Go white sox.

  • sonyactivision

What does this say about New Hampshire? I mean, they don't have any team, they don't have a big city, and they just hang around in bars chanting "Yankees Suck!" I'd run them over because they obviously have no sense of identity. Are they even real people?

  • CKNY

It's still better than the Guido/Puerto Rican/Corporate Douche/Lets All Sing God Bless America Everyday Conventions held in the Bronx.

Today, we find out a Yankees fan murders a Red Sox fan.

Last Oct, it was merely 2nd degree assault.

    Stay classy, Yankee fans.

Choosing between a yankees fan or a redsox fan is like choosing between a giant douche or a turd sandwich.

Every team has a-hole fans but the Yankees seem to have the market cornered.

I guess if you are a d-bag by nature, you are going to be attracted to the Yankees.

  • babyhitler

This is just sad. I feel bad for that boston guy that died. Oh yeah, red sox sucks!

  • diesel

    Yankees Suck!

    Sports are just such FUN.

  • ohhleary

This is what happens when you root for a team with a superiority complex that hasn't won a World Series in over seven years.

  • sakebalboa

    sports fans is serious business.

  • jenspellnogood

i hope she didn't get any of that rancid boston crap on her car.

  • Papercutninja

you can't have more than 3 bostoners together without them chanting "Yankees suck" at some point. It doesn't matter where it is. Church, an elementary school play, anywhere.

  • FrankMartin

It was around 2004 when I first remember seeing the word "hate" used to describe the rivalry. And this was in print in mainstream papers.

    Really turned me off.

  • Tim N.

    Kidding. Of course.

  • matty

    Fuck!

  • Tim N.

    That's one.
