Last Night's Action: Dethroning King Felix

2008_05_metssanchez.jpg
Photograph of Mets relief pitcher Duaner Sanchez, center, surrounded by infielders, from left, Raul Casanova, David Wright, Jose Reyes, Damion Easley and Carlos Delgado as manager Willie Randolph, lower right, comes out to the mound to take out Sanchez after the Arizona Diamondbacks scored five runs in the eighth inning by Paul Connors/AP

  • Yankees 6, Mariners 1: Johnny Damon had two doubles and a home run and Mike Mussina pitched six innings of one-run ball, but the Yankees seem to need to only show up to win against Seattle these days. The Mariners have made six errors in two games and look like they couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Felix Hernandez -- nicknamed King Felix -- was an emperor without his clothes, allowing all six runs on 12 hits. Even Jose Molina got a base knock for the Yankees, who evened their record at .500 with their second straight win. Derek Jeter had three hits. Bobby Abreu, Hideki Matsui and Melky Cabrera added two apiece.

  • Diamondbacks 10, Mets 4: So much for the Mets' dominance in Phoenix. Mike Pelfrey did his best to hang with Arizona ace Brandon Webb, but Augie Ojeda, a Diamondbacks reserve infielder, and his 6 RBIs ruined his and the Mets' afternoon. Pelfrey surrendered five runs in five innings. Duaner Sanchez allowed the same, but in 1/3 of an inning. That's probably the last time in a long time he'll pitch on back-to-back days. Carlos Delgado had a three-run homer. The rest of the Mets' bats struggled to keep up. Sunday brings a matchup of Johan Santana against Dan Haren.

Do you Gothamist people EVER proofread what you write? There's a constant stream of glaring typos. "Johnny Damon had two homers and a home run..." Ooh really?

Duane Sanchez wins "biggest cup of the evening".
