Last Night's Action: Strong Showings

• Yankees 5, Mariners 1: Things Chien-Ming Wang does that other pitchers don't. Throw strikes (two walks Friday), stay in the game (he thew six innings), keep the ball in the ballpark (only one homer allowed this year) and helps his team win games.

  Wang is 6-0 and his team is 7-0 in games he has started this season. Friday's effort was vintage 2008 Wang. He struck out five, allowed only three hits and kept the opponents off balance with his slider complementing his sinker. Melky Cabrera had the big hit, a two-run double in the second. The Yanks are 8-16 in games he doesn't start, for whatever that is worth.

• Mets 7, Diamondbacks 2: Jose Reyes has awoken. He missed the cycle when he tried to stretch a triple -- his second of the game, as it turned out -- into an inside-the-park homer. That didn't work out, but the rest of the game went just fine.

  The Mets got to Arizona starter Micah Owings with three in the first. David Wright added a two-run homer later in support of John Maine. The Mets are now 12-1 in Arizona since 2005. And this year, the Diamondbacks have the best record in the league. They play again late Saturday afternoon.
