The City's Best Between the Bread
We've got some damn tasty sandwiches in this city, no doubt about it. So today the Times gives New Yorkers a collective pat on the back, surveying seven high points in our spectacular sandwich landscape, including Taim's green falafel, the Knish Press (a sandwich composed in a split knish) from Press 195, and – in a surprise nod to nearby Montclair – the Benny Mac (a heart-attack-inducing chicken cutlet sub topped with mac-and-cheese, barbecue sauce and bacon).
Interestingly, the best sandwich Times critic Frank Bruni has ever had in his life – El Quinto Pino's uni panini – is deemed too dainty to meet reporter Julia Moskin's stringent sandwich qualifications. More uni for Bruni.
There are, of course, many other standouts that didn't make the top seven. The first few that come to mind include any of the banh mi from Saigon Banh Mi in Chinatown, the Cuban sandwich from Margon in Midtown, the duck club sandwich at Marshall Stack, and the Mama's Special at Mama's of Corona in Queens. Your suggestions to expand the list?

The Spicy Rizzak at Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop.
I agree the Spicy Rizzak is the best
Yeah I think it was pretty clear that they were looking for a NEW sandwich... not just the heavyweights like the Cubans or Banh Mi.
Last time I was at Saigon Bahn Mi the prices had gone up and the quality down. And they even had a printed menu in English! I think their rein is over.

The "Yankee Stadium" from Mike's Deli in the Italian market on Arthur Avenue may be the pinnacle of sandwich-making craft on this or any other continent.
Crosby at Parisi Bakery! The Suzie Special is my favorite sandwich in NYC.
SILF? Sandwich I Like to Fuck?
Well, if you remove prepositions, I guess it could Sandwich I'd Like to Feast on...but that's still pretty stupid...
How about the B.E.L.T. at Community Food & Juice, or (more old-school) the Valentina at Defonte's, the roast pork Italian at Shorty's, or the muffuletta at Dive Bar? I can't disagree with Margon, Mike's, Mama's, Tiny's, or Banh Mi Saigon Bakery, either.
Even if the Times was looking for "new," or at least new to Times readers, including the sesame pancakes from Prosperity Dumplings is a stretch. The morcilla sandwich at La Esquina Criolla...now, that's a sandwich.
The Thursday Special Sandwich from Olive's on Prince. Best. Sandwich. Ever.
What is it excatly? I work so close to Olive's, but I'm always intimidated by the lines.
I found it on their site. It does sound delicious.
golden pancake with beef - $2 at Tasty Dumpling on Mulberry.
falafel sandwich from azuri cafe on 51st street.
Jink FTW!
I used to work near Azuri. The chicken schwarma is also amazing. Too bad I'm nowhere near it now. :(
I'm eating the Thursday sandwich from Olive's right now. It's quite good.
