Questions About Alleged Bush Protester Arrest

2008_04_yalt.jpgLast week, the Post reported that an anti-war protester was arrested outside the 92nd Street Y, after allegedly assaulting a wheelchair-bound teenager. However, according to the NYPD, the protester, Gary "German" Talis was actually arrested for allegedly assaulting another individual--not the wheelchair-bound teen.

Police from the 19th Precinct were called to the Y because two individuals were being disruptive during a talk with First Lady Laura Bush and her daughter Jenna. One of the Y's policies is "the right to [exclude]...anyone who disrupts a program or anyone who fails to abide by the institution's rules and practices."

However, Talis and at least one witness say Talis was the one being assaulted, by John Lovetro, the father of the wheelchair-bound teen (here's a video of Talis explaining his side). The witness, Dianne Lipson, took this photograph of Lovetro apparently being restrained. Lovetro had told the Post last week, “He began yelling about Iraq and Iran at Jenna Bush. She was waving at the crowd. I told the guy, ‘What are you doing? Shut up. This is about a child and books.'"

We are Change (described as a "citizens based grassroots peace and social justice movement working to reveal the truth behind the events of September 11th as well as the lies of the government and corporate elite who remain suspect in this crime" on its website) is raising money for Talis's defense fund.

You wouldn't say "colored" to describe an African-American, so please don't use "wheelchair-bound" to describe a wheelchair user. Catch up with your terminology...

There's a time and a place to protest the Bush administration's bullshit. A children's book reading is neither.

I'm wheelchair-bound when drunk or i may as well be.

Jen,

Thank you for the updated story AND the corrections to the old one. I was sure you were giving lip service in your previous comments, but I was wrong. I apologize for misjudging you.

I want you to get that following through on this has made a huge difference for a young man wrongly accused, and our society on the whole.

We live in a time of eroding civil liberties, and sadly, the lethargic public has been turned against itself. We would sooner react than listen.

Scott

Oh he just assaulted someone else, oh ok. Perhaps once they "reveal the truth behind the events of September 11th' they will have time for this.

It's nice to see the truth get out, for a change.

Just another politically charged schmuck on the loose...

Politics trivialized as sport... what a shame.

U.N. Official Calls for Study Of Neocons' Role in 9/11

"It is possibly true that especially the neoconservatives thought there was a situation in the country and in the world where something had to happen to wake up the American people. Whether they are innocent about the contention that they made that something happen or not, I don't think we can answer definitively at this point. All we can say is there is a lot of grounds for suspicion, there should be an official investigation of the sort the 9/11 commission did not engage in and that the failure to do these things is cheating the American people and in some sense the people of the world of a greater confidence in what really happened than they presently possess."

He added, "Unlike most public intellectuals today, he is both honest and very, very knowledgeable in that he understands the probable reality of 9/11. He understands that the evidence that it was a false flag operation is very strong."

The narrative that the attacks from 2001 were a "false flag" operation is a recurring theme in the literature challenging the consensus that 19 Al Qaeda hijackers flew commercial jets into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. False flag refers to espionage or covert actions taken by one government made to seem like the work of another. The false flag thesis has it that the Bush administration is somehow responsible for the September 11 attacks as a pretext for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"It is possibly true that especially the neoconservatives thought there was a situation in the country and in the world where something had to happen to wake up the American people. Whether they are innocent about the contention that they made that something happen or not, I don't think we can answer definitively at this point.

Except that the neocons have been documenting their intentions for years:
