Last Night's Action: To The Brink

  • Pittsburgh 5 Rangers 3: Ryan Hollweg has a fantastic moustache, but his idiotic penalty probably cost the Rangers their season. New York fell behind right out of the gate with Marian Hossa scoring only a minute into the game. The Rangers tied things up, but Pittsburgh went ahead 3-1 before the end of the first period and the Garden became a tomb.

It remained that way as the Rangers failed to convert on two abbreviated 5-on-3 advantages and Pittsburgh kept killing the clock. But, a beautiful pass from Scott Gomez to Ryan Callahan at 12:07 of the second brought the Rangers to within 1 and Jaromir Jagr tied things up less than a minute later. Suddenly, it was 3-3 and the Garden was rocking and the Rangers were a deflection off the goalpost away from taking the lead. And that is where Hollweg committed an asinine penalty, taking a boarding call in the offensive zone. Pittsburgh converted on the ensuing power play and added another goal early in the third period to put away the game and leave the Rangers’ season on life support.

  • Detroit 6 Yankees 4: This is not the Phil Hughes the Yankees thought they had. It’s impossible to know what is wrong with Hughes, but the Yankees can’t afford to wait much longer to find out. The Yankees also took a huge hit off the field when they announced after the game that A-Rod is going on the DL
  • Mets 5 Pittsburgh 4 (11 innings) : A throwing error and a wild pitch helped the Pirates tie the game in the ninth, but David Wright won it for the Mets with a single in the 11th.

That picture looks like a 17th century baroque painting.

God, I miss hockey. I mean real hockey. You know the kind that would make Don Cherry proud and involves blood, stitches, teams in places like Manitoba, no sissy European rules like shootouts, and of course no team named after a crappy Disney movie or play in some hell hole like Arizona or Florida. That scene above back in the days when hockey was real would have probably have been just a couple of high stickings. It is all figure skating now. Stupid Gary Bettman!

hockey is the NASCAR of the north

funny, i would say that the picture looks like a hockey-themed gay porn.

That photo is great.

But, only one line about the Mets?

Does this mean Hollweg is gone next season? And why can't the Rangers get a Power Play goal? What is wrong with this world!?!
