Tomorrow, iconic photographs of American presidents over the years will be on display at Federal Hall. The exhibit, "The American President," is put together by the Associated Press, which is showcasing over 80 photographs of presidents "at war and at ease, in victory and in defeat, confronting national crises and facing personal scandals, running for office and leading the country on the world stage"--and photographs of this year's presidential candidates on the campaign trail.
The AP shared a few photographs included in the exhibit (see gallery below). And the setting of the exhibit at Federal Hall, right on Wall Street, is especially appropriate, as it's where George Washington was sworn in as the country's first president in 1789. "The American President" will be on display from Wednesday, April 30, through January 31, 2009.
BARDSTOWN, Ky./July 1979--In his first public appearance since the Iran hostage crisis, President Jimmy Carter sprawls on the roof of his car to shake hands along the parade route. AP Washington photographer Bob Daugherty gambled on staying with Carter during an otherwise routine motorcade through town, while other media drove ahead to the school auditorium where Carter would speak. The photograph of Carter is incredible.
It was the 70's man; the war was over. Everyone was chilling on car hoods!
Any good photos of Thomas Jefferson or Andrew Jackson?
Thanks Jen!
