Last Night's Action: The End Of The Road Trip

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg

  • Yankees 5 Indians 2: Maybe it was the cold temperatures, but the Yankees couldn’t do anything for the first five innings. They were no-hit through five, but the sixth proved to be the difference. Melky Cabrera and Derek Jeter reached on infield singles and after Bobby Abreu singled the Yankees had the bases loaded and no outs. A-Rod was hit by a pitch, driving in a run and Jason Giambi drove in a run with a groundout. Morgan Ensberg capped the scoring off with the third infield single of the inning for the Yankees and New York had a 4-2 lead.
Hideki Matsui added a RBI double in the eighth and the bullpen provided four shutout innings in support of Mike Mussina. Mussina won the 253rd game of his career, tying him with Carl Hubbell on the all-time list. The Yankees, who have played 18-of-20 on the road now come home for a long homestand.
  • Mets rained out: The game will be made up on August 11th, wiping out an off-day for the team.
