Video of the Day: Grading Your Bike Lock
Spring is upon us and, with NYC bike month starting Thursday, the surge in bicycle commuting is expected to continue apace. But an increase in bikes also means more bike thievery – as one trusting bike owner found out last week when he let a stranger “try out” his ride.
And just because your bike is locked doesn’t mean it’s safe. In 2006, this video surfaced showing how little passersby seem to care when someone is stealing a bike; now a duo of veteran cyclists have made an amusing ‘Dos & Don’ts’ video to inform new bike owners on proper security methods. I'm so scared of that guy who works at Citi Habitat. I know he's a nice guy and all but his drug use is frightening. Still, he's like ozzie osbourne but not rich and less talented.
I've always looked at bikers as long haired dope smoking commie fags. Your picture kind of reinforces my concept.
That guy Hal is a very interesting persion
Bad tree karma
Speaking of trees, much of this video was made in or around Petrosino Park, the little triangle of asphalt that has long been neglected and forgotten by the Parks Dept. I noticed this weekend that four small trees have been uprooted and removed from the curb area around the park. One of the trees was dead, but the other three, although still young, seemed to be thriving. Now there's just four piles of dirt.
Perhaps this is preparation for new plantings, although the three living trees already there had a good few years start. I've heard talk for some time now about a "Million Tree" plantings for NYC (this chatter is especially loud around Earth Day, as it makes for good soundbytes from our "caring" pols) - but all I seen so far are plots of dirt where trees should be.
yeah, this video really works to dispel negative cyclist stereotypes.
sore...
slow news day, huh?
Hal is the funniest cyclist out there.
He gave me a C.
I got an F for not locking my bike, but an A for covering it in shit.
Each of those dorks who locked his/her bike to a tree should get automatically downgraded to a C- and a tire deflated. The locks rub the bark and damage the tree, which is already stressed from all the honking.
