Last Night's Action: Santana Plays Stopper
- Mets 7, Nationals 2: Any time a pitcher has more extra-base hits than he allows, things must be going well. Johan Santana cracked two doubles and allowed only one -- ironically it was hit by Nationals starter Tim Redding -- as he and the Mets snapped the team's three-game losing streak. The Nationals have proved a nice cure for the Mets this season; New York is 4-0 against the ex-Expos. Ryan Church, moved up to the fifth spot in the order, had three RBIs. Carlos Beltran went 2-for-4. Jose Reyes, though, continued to slump. He went 0-for-5.
- Yankees 6, White Sox 4: Who is this guy, and what did he do with Mike Mussina? The Yankees' corpse went seven innings and allowed two runs, though both came on the long ball. The bats got to former Yankee Javier Vazquez -- he of Game 7 in 2004 fame -- to take the second straight in Chicago and third consecutive overall. Joe Girardi used Mariano Rivera to get a five-out save. The teams will close out the series Thursday.

I hope the Mets and the Yankees keep going like this. It would be great for NYC to have another subway series.

I think Jorge really helped Muss. Did you see when Girardi went to call for the bullpen and Jorge stopped him? It seems like he really wants to work with him.
