  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a DOA floater off Ogden Ave. in the Bronx, a scaffold incident on 47th St. and 7th Ave. in Manhattan, and a large brush fire at Orchard Beach in the Bronx.
  • Out-of-state drivers flocked to gas stations along the NJ Turnpike to take advantage of gas selling for only $3.17 a gallon. Stations along the highway are only allowed to raise their prices once a week and they plan to raise the price by $.22 a gallon tomorrow morning.
  • Gov. Paterson sent a letter to state legislators asking them to enact mid-year budget cuts in line with those he has planned for state agencies, CUNY, and SUNY.
  • The Sex and the City movie will be a runway of designer labels and Anna Wintour herself gave her blessing to Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley to play himself in the film.
  • Despite his release from prison after 17 years after it was determined he was wrongfully convicted of murdering his parents, Martin Tankleff's life remains in a sort of limbo as the State mulls over whether he'll be retried. Tankleff can't even get a photo ID from the DMV because he can't provide six forms of ID, like utility bills and credit cards.
  • Advance tickets are now available at select locations for the Fort Greene House Tour, which will take place May 4th.
  • The wandering black bear that was alarming Paramus, NJ residents was located and captured after being shot with a tranquilizer dart.
  • The Dept. of Justice admitted that it screwed up by denying federal death benefits to the families of the two NYPD auxiliary officers who were killed while pursuing a crazed gunman in the West Village. Those benefits will be awarded.

Looking at that picture, I can't help but think that the City must be a very hard place for people on acid and schizophrenics to navigate.

`I'm amazed,'' said Tom Eich of Westchester, N.Y., who was filling a large luxury car with premium gas. ``I just paid $4.30 per gallon at a little station on the West Side. It's pretty outrageous"

It's outrageous for driving around with a large car getting about 10 miles to the gallon. Couldn't the AP find someone who is actually struggling with the high gas prices? Clearly this guy is on a six figure salary.
