Last Night's Action: The Chicago Way

  • Yankees 9 White Sox 5: Bobby Abreu had a huge grand slam in the seventh to put the Yankees up 6-3 and Johnny Damon added a 3-run shot in the 8th to put the game safely out of reach.

Chien-Ming Wang was shaky, but fought through six innings and got the win. It is the 50th win of his career and Wang becomes the fastest pitcher to win 50 games since Dwight Gooden did it in 1986. Joba Chamberlain walked in a run in the seventh, but got the Yankees out of a bases-loaded jam. He also worked the 8th before turning the game over to Kyle Farnsworth. Farnsworth did his best to blow it and even forced Rivera to get up in the pen, but the Yankees still prevailed.

  • Cubs 8 Mets 1: The Mets will gladly leave the Windy City behind them after suffering a second shellacking at the hands of the Cubs. Nelson Figueroa wasn’t great, but he kept his team in the game. Jorge Sosa didn’t serving up a grand slam to Ronny Cedeno in the 8th.
  • Rangers will play Pittsburgh in the second round. The schedule hasn’t officially been announced, but it sounds like Game 1 will be Friday in Pittsburgh.
