Last Night's Action: One is Better than None

  • Yankees 7, Orioles 1: Sunday would have been bleak indeed if the Yankees hadn't gotten to Steve Trachsel. They weren't dancing on their flight to Chicago however; Alex Rodriguez strained his quadriceps and is "day-to-day," which probably means he is missing a few games. Andy Pettitte took a perfect game into the fifth inning and looked fine in his seven innings of work. Even a previously dormant Johnny Damon went deep to help his team avoid a sweep in Baltimore. After an off-day Monday -- their first this season -- the Yankees play three against the White Sox.

  • Phillies 5, Mets 4: Jimmy Rollins' trip to the disabled list couldn't help the Mets. Chase Utley made up for his double-play partner's absence with two homers off Mike Pelfrey. Rollins' replacement, Eric Bruntlett, helped the Phillies escape the Mets' ninth-inning rally with a diving stop on Carlos Beltran's bid for a game-tying single. The Mets did take two of three from their rivals, and they travel to Chicago and then Washington before returning home to face Atlanta.
