Is not even the best Indian on the block, much less the city. If this review was written 8 years ago, then it might have held some weight.

Buffet at JD is a tremendous deal and well worth the dollar or two more over its nearby competitors. A la carte is a whole other thing though. I remember going there with a party of four last year and having the bill top $100, without drinks. Always leaves me wondering what it is about Indian food that makes it consistently more expensive that comparable Chinese, Thai, Mexican places. Curry Hill > Jackson Heights and Tiffin Wallah > Jackson Diner.

I'm glad it's still around, too bad I didn't really appreciate Indian food when I went there over 15 years ago. I think they do catering, too.

Long before the concept of being a chowhound developed, New Yorkers from all over were going to the Jackson Diner for outstanding Indian food. Glad to see it survive the years (and the internet).

i've been there several times. it's worth the trip. the saag paneer is as good as my punjabi stepmother's.
