Pope Benedict Arrives in NYC

His Holiness has arrived! Pope Benedict XVI arrived at JFK Airport this morning (NY1's Roger Clark excitedly noted the flight from DC was shorter than expected) and was greeted by various Catholic Church and political dignitaries. Some children from local Catholic schools presented him flowers.

2008_04_popeun.jpgFrom JFK, the Pope took a helicopter to Wall Street and then traveled by car to the United Nations, where he is about to address the General Assembly. (You can see it on WNBC.com, CNN.com, and other station's live feeds.)

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon said before the Pope leaves, he will visit the UN's meditation room. Moon added something along the lines of, "Whether we worship one God or none, we at the United Nations must sustain our faith every day."

Pope Benedict is expected to address world issues, such as, per the AP, "a call for bedrock ethical and moral principles as a guiding force even in pluralistic societies, a human rights agenda that encompasses religious freedom and the sacredness of human life, and the responsibility of first-world nations to aid developing ones."

The Vatican's permanent observer at the U.N. Archbishop Celestino Milgore told reporters last week, "Our future must be based on respect for universal truths and our common humanity."

Careful what you say about him. I saw this movie where he shot lighting out of his hands.

"Whether we worship one God or none, we at the United Nations must sustain our faith every day."

No shoutout to polytheism? Ouch.. way to offend 20% of the world.

the media obviously care more about the pope's visit than the public. i really would like to turn to cnn without seeing another mass. i'm not looking for salvation.

U.N. Archbishop Celestino Milgore told reporters last week, "Our future must be based on respect for universal truths and our common humanity."

What do fantastical religious beliefs have to do with truth?

Do unto others, public works, charity, etc... not that I don't see your point too.

If you're talking about helping others, the relief efforts in New Orleans were run almost solely by religious groups and church service ventures--not that such work forgives tresspasses or abuse in any way.

The Pope hasn't been Rickrolled yet?

hahahaha.... Avatar77 wins comment of the year.

Upon landing at JFK, the Pope, in an unexpected move, turned to Edward Cardinal Egan and punched him square in the face, sending him sprawling to the tarmac, then stood over him and said, "Take that, you pretentious f***!"

Longtime Vaticanologists were stunned by the display, but did express some admiration for the Holy Father. "Who knew he had such a right cross?" one asked.

As the Pope stepped over the Cardinal and made his way down the tarmac, he turned to the reporter from WNBC-TV and was overhead to ask how he could hookup with Darlene Rodriguez. The stunned reporter just shrugged, at which time Pope Benedict made his way to his waiting helicopter without further incident.

Oh there goes Benny--always Stylin' and Profilin'

At least he gets along with the Moonies, that's more than the other popes did.

they should test the clothes of any little boy he lays his hands on!

Hey I majored in Vaticanology!

He has the same color taste in clothes as Tom Wolfe, except he adds a cape for a certain look of mischief. Did Mark Twin wear a cape also?

The big question is who is paying for all this Papist nonsense?
