CNN Reporter Violates Park Curfew While Carrying Meth

2008_04_richardquest.jpgWell, CNN reporter Richard Quest is nothing but honest. He was charged with drug possession after the police found methamphetamime in his pocket. How did they know? The NY Times explained that Quest "volunteered, 'I have meth in my pocket.'"

The police stopped Quest because he was in Central Park (around West Drive and 64th Street) at 3:40 a.m., well after the 1 a.m. curfew (it's open again at 6 a.m.). Police try to enforce the park curfew--even refusing the extend a John Lennon memorial one year--which was reimposed back in 1989.

Jossip points out given that Quest is openly gay, "you're looking at a rumormonger that pretty much goes like this: EVERY GAY IS A DRUG-FUELED SEX HOUND PROWLING FOR SEX IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT." (The Ramble has a reputation as a cruising spot.)

I'm a psychotherapist and writer in New York City and just published an article on gay men relapsing on crystal methamphetamine. Not sure if it is of interest to you, but thought I'd send it along.

    Thank you!

    Everyday A Challenge

So what happened with gay men and meth? A couple of years ago everyone was in a panic. Eighth Avenue was crowded with bus stop posters decrying the scourge that was crystal methamphetamine, it seemed like everyone knew someone who had just lost their job or soul to Tina, brunch pals were dropping like flies. Health officials and community activists made the direst possible predictions about the perfect storm of meth and HIV, not to mention flesh-eating, drug-resistant bacterial infections. Yikes!

Well, the truth is that meth, like crack cocaine, is still around and still wreaking havoc in the lives of gay men and others; it's just gone underground. The public panic has waned, as it always does - a point this newspaper's Duncan Osborne has taken pains to point out - and all the hoopla has subsided into the daily grind of users using and former users struggling to stay clean.

Don't be silly. Not every gay; mostly just the white ones.

  • CR

I for one can't wait until this guy stops doing Meth. Maybe then his absolutely annoying and rediculous pronounciations of names like Barak (which he pronounces like the word "barrack") Obama ("o-BOMB-ah") will cease.

  • Snoopy

He was in quest of drugs and sex that is why he was there. It's a biological and hereditary thing for him.

  • just saying

Who would ever be in Central Park at 3:40am?

You'd have to be on drugs to do that.

  • Kevin Bracken

(PS - It is quite obvious the police offered some kind of "deal," with Quest not fully realizing he was not detained or under arrest.)

  • Kevin Bracken

    Legalize everything.

  • Dave Hogarty

Maybe Quest wasn't completely aware he was being arrested and was just offering to share some of his meth.

  • Elderta

He's a lot less annoying on the BBC, but when he comes here... well, he's annoying. But I do find him funny. He's always got a huge smile on his face. A strong... honest... smile.

Exactly lol. Work smarter not harder.

  • S.D.

Richard Quest always sounded like a British Gilbert Gottfried to me...

  • babyhitler

I don't know why cops deal with these queers. It's not like they are harming anyone. I see cops busting these queers all the time at west 4th street for doing meth and looking for cock. why? easy busts to pad the rookie cops resume if you ask me. Leave the Queers alone!

  • Kojak

Thank GOD. That man is terribly annoying.

Why CNN picked him up from BBC is anybody's guess.

  • rcltrh

You'd think he'd just use Manhunt.com or gay.com Park prowling is so 70's

  • sinisterteashop

Get a clue, Richard. Gay men don't have sex in New York City. We shop, we design things and we gentrify neighborhoods. Go back to London if you want to have sex, you pig!

  • David

Poor Richard Quest. If only he weren't so incurably annoying.
