Larry Doby played for the Cleveland Indians and they had a day of events last year celebrating the 50th anniversary of him becoming the first African-American player. Major League Baseball also marked the occasion with events and tributes at its games. I met Doby years ago and I had a wonderful conversation with him. Very nice man and a very good ballplayer.

The Mets have appropriated Jackie Robinson's legacy because they're the National League team based in New York. It makes sense to an extent (the Mets colors are, after all, based on those of the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants), but Robinson was a Dodger and that organization deserves credit for part of his legacy.

Black manager. Black Governor throwing out the first pitch. I wish Mr. Robinson was still here to enjoy this.

Guv Patterson's half-inning on WFAN made even listening to Howie Rose tolerable. The Guv gets extra points for being a knowledgeable baseball fan.

It's a good thing the Mets got rid of Lo Duca. Can you imagine "Captain Red Ass" being on the other end of the Gov's pitch? "Hey, I'm over here, you blind bastard!"

The Yankees should have Larry Doby day - Larry was the first Black player in the American league and also grew up in New Jersey. Everyone forgets about him! It's so sad.
