#17

There's a quote from the 18th C., I forget who said it, but it goes along the lines of you leave New York, and you come back 40 years later...it's a completely different place. New York isn't timeless.

Cool. The more information that consumers have at their disposal, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Landor, that is so true.

I got a starbucks gift card a few weeks ago and went there for the first time in years today. Practically every pastry there had nearly 500 calories.

A sedentary, adult man should only have to eat 4 or 5 of those things a day to survive. I imagine they are perfectly ok for someone eating a continental breakfast - but I imagine most people didn't realize those pastries are meals in and of themselves.

interlard: Not necessarily.. trade groups by default oppose almost every regulation, no matter how sensible it is. They're very similar to the hard-headed unions, when you think about it.

#12. She said that 480 calories is 1/4 (not 4 times) her daily caloric allowance (which would thus be somewhere around 1920 calories). You must be bad at math -- or really poor at reading.

#7. Your recommended daily caloric allowance is 120? You must be real skinny--or a real fat slob.

I'll still like to know how this regulation will " prevent 150,000 New Yorkers from becoming obese and keep 30,000 from developing diabetes"? I predict no change.

People who eat fast food are stupid. And stupid people can't or won't read.

The New York State Restaurant Association must be pretty sleazy to fight this. Their members are ashamed of the crap they are peddling and want to hide it from us. While they make money, people's health is put at risk.

I would have never guessed that Starbuck's Chocolate Sandcastle Donut has 480 frick'n calories: more than one quarter my recommended daily allowance. The posted nutrition info is very eye-opening.

Yes, people will go out and gorge themselves on fast food now that their First Amendment rights have been taken away and their eyes have been opened to the pure horror, HORROR, of knowing how many calories and fat are in their favorite fast food burger.

I rather have information about what credit card interest rate I'm paying (hidden in the back of the bill and NOWHERE to be found on the card's website), the average price of my cell phone minutes etc etc etc. Oh and require banks to advertise how much they are ripping us off for atm fees. Have other people figured out you're better off using the Deli ATM if you can't find your bank?

Unless they post signs saying

HAMBURGERS WILL KILL YOU

EAT SUSHI AND BROCCOLI

I doubt it will have the desired effect.

About fuckin' time. This is what conservative ideology is about and is never practiced: consumers must have access to all information when they make a purchase, so they can make rational decisions. You'd be surprised how much damage a trip to Paul's will do to you,...although, great food.
