Maps of the Day: Holy Papal Visit Gridlock!

popemap_1.jpg

The head of the Catholic Church and his Popemobile will be cruising the streets of Manhattan and the Bronx this week. That means street closings and traffic disruptions all over town. Pope Benedict has a wide-ranging itinerary around the city, from Ground Zero to Yankee Stadium (on Sunday-map above).

Pope Benedict XVI will finish up the "render unto Caesar" leg of his journey in DC tomorrow and arrive in NYC on Friday. The Observer notes that the Pope's NY crash pad is a $17 million East 72nd St. townhouse, donated to the Vatican by the family of a former Mayor of the City (1889-92), Hugh Grant, in 1975. And that means East 72nd between Fifth and Madison is closed for all of the Pope's visit:

Yeah the Pope of Dope will be at Yankkee Stadium!

1 + 2:

Oh you know my man Ratzinger hits the sticky icky every day. Just look at those eyes.

I knew the Fantastic Four would somehow imprint themselves on the Papal Visit. I mean, how better to represent the Holy Trinity than the father, Reed Richards, the son, the Thing, and the Holy Ghost, the Human Torch. The Invisible Woman represents the virgin Mary, of course.

If you don't believe me, then why is the Pope in town on the same weekend as ComicCon? Coincidence? I don't think so. The Pope is a cosplayer, yo!

what a prick, this guy. how many people is he inconveniencing, and for what?

parents everywhere: keep your 4-17-year-old boys the hell away--imagine all the pedophiles who are going to be out prowling the streets--probably something like double the usual amount.

Um, mdowing, he does happen to represent the religious beliefs of around 1,000,000,000 people - try to give the man at least some respect (and that's coming from a Jew).

Where did they dig up the 1970s map?

Because it's a LOT better looking than the current Hagstrom. Il Papa deserves nothing less after all.

What the heck is the magnetometer for?

To meter your magnets, of course. What did you think?
