Ex-Fiancé and His Cousin Arrested for Murderous Plot
Families of a murder victim and her ex-fiance are reeling from the revelation the ex-fiance and his cousin were behind the killing. Carlos Cruz, 36, admitted to paying his cousin $1,000 to kill his 18-year-old girlfriend, Chelsea Frazier, on a deserted Bronx street and stage it to look like a robbery, all in front of their 1-year-old son.
Cruz, Frazier, and their son had traveled from Massachusetts to the Bronz, to visit Cruz's family and to do something shopping for baby Alijah. Cruz had claimed when he pulled over his car to change a diaper, a gunman approached them and during the struggle, Frazier was fatally shot seven times. A witness had described seeing the shooter, a man with dreadlocks, running from the scene, with Cruz chasing him, yelling something. According to police, Cruz was yelling, "Wait! You forgot to shoot me!"
The witness described the shooter as having dreadlocks and driving a green SUV. With Cruz in the hospital, police noticed his cousin, Devon Miller, 25, had dreadlocks--and happened to drive a green Chevy Tahoe. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said, "The detectives kept an open mind. They were attuned to every nuance, to the slightest inconsistencies.”
Frazier's family says she wanted to break up with Cruz, who couldn't handle the idea (and didn't want to pay child support if they broke up). Frazier's grandfather told the Daily News Cruz once said, "If I can’t have her, then no one will." Her mother apparently told Frazier not to go to the Bronz with Cruz, but "She said, ‘Oh, Mom, it’s all right, we’re buying spring and summer clothes for the baby.’"
The NY Times reports that once Miller admitted to the killing, the police were able to get Cruz to confess. Frazier's parents have taken Alijah back to Southbridge, MA and are mourning her death; her stepfather said, "I just hope it happened quick and she didn’t suffer." The Boston Herald notes similarities between this killing and the 1989 murder of pregnant Carol Stuart by her husband Charles.

I feel bad for the victim, but they started dating when he was 35 and she was 17? I know this is a "cultural difference" that we should "respect," but c'mon.

And who would accept only $1,000 for a murder? I thought the going rate was like $50K.

Devon Miller, who lives on Beach Avenue, near the shooting scene, has been arrested six times since 1999, the authorities said. He served two years in state prison for criminal possession of a weapon for his part in a Brooklyn killing, and 21 months for crack cocaine possession. He was paroled last July and got a job at American Apparel

Skipping over the irony of a grammar cop choosing not to capitalize the first letter of his sentences, that's hardly exclusive to Gothamist. The linked Daily News page, for example, has the following photo caption... containing both an extraneous comma and an obvious misstatement:
"18-year-old Chelsea had a 14-year-old baby boy named, Alijah (below)."
"And who would accept only $1,000 for a murder? I thought the going rate was like $50K."
For someone high profile, yeah... like the recent case where an inmate offered $50,000 for the killing of a judge. But most "run of the mill" murder for hire cases involve only a few thousand dollars. So, yeah, I guess there could have been a "cousin discount" here.

wait. Why is my sort of racist comment deleted but Snoopy's totally racist comment is kept? And to be honest I love black and spanish people. True story. I once weighed 185 pounds. I'm 6'1" and that may seem not too heavy but living in tribeca I was a fattie. I used to eat junk food and go to Burger King and Mcdonald's all the time and go to Theaters and watch shitty movies. Then one day I realized that even though I loved junk food like hamburgers and soda I had to be around all these ghetto servers who were mean and cursing all the time and gave really shitty service to get it. So I stopped going to mcdonald's and burger king and started eating healthy then I got back down to 165 pounds. I also noticed that the darkies used to go to the theaters and watch all the shitty movies with me and would be loud and obnoxious in the theater. That made me stop going to the theater and stop watching shitty movies and reality television. So, I just rented all the top 100 movies on IMDB to get some real culture on my HDTV. So I love black and spanish people. They helped me get skinny, healthy, and cultured.
I have quite a few very good friends of hispanic origin, and some of them being very dark skinned, that will back up my observation. That's why my comment wasn't deleted babyhitler.
Teen girls should know better than dating someone in their 30s.
A case like this happen time and time again. The girl wants to leave her BF, but the guy doesn't want to leave the relationship and instead kills her so no one else can have her.
