No Charges in Red Sox Jersey Caper

2008_04_jerseyortix.jpgIn spite of threats from the Yankees front office, the Bronx DA's office won't prosecute the construction worker who buried a Red Sox jersey in the new Yankee Stadium.

A spokesman for DA Robert Johnson said, "It's unlikely, given our limited resources, we would use them for something of this nature." But don't worry--the Yankees may file a civil suit against Gino Castignoli, an avowed Red Sox fan who really hates Jorge Posada. We bet Red Sox Nation will take up a fund for his legal fees--the Boston Herald calls him an "unlikely Messiah"!

The Albany Times-Union has an editorial--"The Curse of Castignoli"--and Castignoli's mom, a Yankees fan, told the Herald, "He’s a child that if he believes in something he sticks with it. He always did. That’s his nature." And the Daily News finally weighs in on the jersey hijinx, by decrying the Yankees for being wasteful enough to dig up the jersey (it cost $30,000-50,000), an "inane spectacle that should wholly frighten any taxpayer or serious baseball fan."

Italian Yankee fans will have their own way of working things out with this fella.

why does he hate Jorge?

they need to post his picture and address and see yankee street justice at work.

The fact that his mother describes her grown son as a "child" says a lot.

Did it really cost $30,000-50,000??

Yeah, but the Yankees felt that wasting $30 - $50K of tax payer money was OK.

The dumbass Red Sox fan should have waited until the staudium was built to blab.

wow im amazed that he wasnt charged, not because he broke any law but because i whole heartedly believe the bronx da and the police would have loved the opportunity to kiss george steinbrenners ass....

every time something doesn't go my way in life i know it is because I put on the wrong shoe first that morning.

it's expensive to dig up and repour concrete, plus union man hours.

im with smitty. why the Jorge hate? i could see people hating ARod or Giambi, or even Pettite, but Jorge? he aint done nothin to no one!

Can't help wonder what other kinds of things may have been secreted into the new Yankee Stadium. Maybe something a bit more damaging than a jersey? Like some kind of ticking device that could someday go "boom"?

Great security the builders got going there.

no charges were filed, because the whole thing was orchestrated by the yankees!

Anyone else think the whole thing is a stunt? Why would he draw them a map in the NY Post?

yankees fans aren't going to do shit because yankees fans are pussies.

I hate Posada because he has no chin like a normal human. He looks like Tippy, the turtle you had to draw in those magazine ads for that crappy art school.

BTW, doesn't anyone else think this as all a phony Yankees publicity stunt? It was all nice and neatly revealed, solved, and wrapped up in 2 days???

If it was for real, it shows how petty the big bad Yankees are, yet again.

Should have killed two birds with one stone and stuck Castignoli in the hole before sealing it back up. Hey, Mr. Hoffa, here's a new neighbor for you.

Only thing I can think of as far as hating on Jorge: He was the one that got the hit to tie the game in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS against the Sox which chased Pedro. That and the eventual Boone HR in extra innings were the last good things the Yanks have done against the Sox.
