Street Sign Typo: Merser Street

merserst.jpg

The above photo was taken on April 9th at the intersection that was previously known as Mercer Street and W Houston Street. Adjust your Google maps, the city has (accidentally) renamed Mercer to Merser. Any guesses as to how long it will take the DoT to white this one out?

Check out some past signage typos here.

Could have been worse and wound up as MRSA St.

Maybe the DoT will introduce a "W Howston" sign!

Any one else find it ironic that Jen Carlson is calling someone else out on a typo?

I didn't realize Jen Chung worked for the DOT.

i'm with you BMMDan.

next she's going to do a post about another website having horrible glitches and delays in their comment systems.

Literally a sign of the times.

this is what happens when they cut education funding, where do you think the uneducated go after they drop out of high school? that's right, they all go to the sign factory.

In a previous job, I was in a brainstorming session with the president and a bunch of other office drones, and the person tasked with writing on the whiteboard spelled marquee, "markey". I saw the Prez trying to stifle a laugh.

Actually it should be Murcer Street, for Bobby.

Official response from DOT:

"Ill keep pratce."

I hear they've change a nearby street to Prinze St., in honor of comic actor Freddie.

Saw "42rd St" while they were replacing the signs a few years back. I went back the next day for a pic, and it was already changed.

bunches of morons running around

Is it the sign guy's fault or the guy who wrote out the work order? Because somewhere there's a piece of DOT paper with a request for a new sign to be fabricated and it has the name of the street written on it. This stuff doesn't happen verbally.

you know the guy who did this was a darkie.

This was fixed yesterday (4/14/08).
