MUSIC: While you're in Park Slope checking out Jukebox the Ghost at Southpaw tonight, make a detour at nearby Union Hall for a bill fit for Marla Hansen (pictured). The Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter will be sharing the stage with Cat Martino and Sharon Van Etten for an early show.
6:30 p.m. // Union Hall [702 Union St, Park Slope] // $7
SHOW: It's time to channel your inner-elementary-schooler and join in on a Show and Tell. The O'Debra Twins host the Monday night event, in which each participant gets 7 minutes to show, and tell. Expect something a little different from a nostalgia-fest though, we'd wager these two have something a little more modern in store.
10 p.m. // Bowery Poetry Club [308 Bowery] // $3
THEATER: Pulitzer prize-nominated playwright Steven Drukman has written a new play, Truth and Beauty (in the year 2000), that will be read tonight as part of Soho Think Tank’s 6th Floor series. Nobody knows what it’s about yet, and that’s part of the fun of this reading series, which has given audiences their first glimpse of many shows that have gone on to become downtown hits. A discussion will follow. – John Del Signore
EVENT: There's a new NPR in town: Neighborhood Public Radio. The artist-run station is "now broadcasting live from a former shoe storefront at the Whitney Biennial, NPR provides an alternative media platform to community artists and musicians, activists, and local residents. By opening up the channels of communication through both internet streams and a micro-powered signal, Neighborhood Public Radio creates a kind of open radiophonic space: one free of FCC rules and regulations, corporate underwriters, and, well, any editorial involvement whatsoever." Hard Harry would love this, and their motto: "If it's in the neighborhood and it makes noise .. we hope to put it on the air." Check out their presentation tonight, more info here.
