Last Night's Action: The Devils Are Back In It

- Devils 4 Rangers 3 (OT) : Sometimes the puck just bounces the right way for you and that is exactly what happened for the Devils Sunday. New Jersey got the win they had to have thanks to a very lucky bounce. John Madden made a smart play, throwing the puck at the crease and it deflected off of Marc Staal’s skate and into the net. It was the second good bounce for New Jersey, who scored their first goal thanks to a bounce off of Fedor Tyutin’s stick.
The game was a war, with both teams hitting legally and at times illegally, though the refs seemed interested in calling anything. Martin Brodeur and Ryan Callahan had a huge collision in the third period, which Brodeur was lucky to escape from without injury. Sean Avery scored a goal and pissed people off while Brandon Dubinsky had two goals for New York. The teams get two nights off to heal up for Game 4 on Wednesday night.
- Boston 8 New York 5: Phil Hughes bombed in his first appearance at Fenway, but the Yankees' bats couldn't capitalize on multiple chances. Joe Girardi made a very odd decision, lifting his only healthy catcher for a pinch-runner in the 8th, when he was trailing by two runs.
- Milwaukee 9 Mets 7: The Brewers allowed 14 hits and 8 walks, but thanks to five double plays, they survived. Oliver Perez was awful, getting shelled and failing to protect a 6-2 lead. David Wright homered, the 100th home run of his career.

Jose Molina left in the 8th because he strained his left hamstring in the 4th inning.

There is no mention of Sean Avery's antics in the game. His... unorthodox style led to a large Rangers goal. No one's ever seen anything like it. It's time for Glen Sather to re-sign him over the summer. Not even a question.
Thanks Steven, I wasn't aware of that.
And Dave, you are right about his antics. I have never seen a guy turn his back on the play and harass the goalie like that. I just didn't have the space to get into it.
Can you guys please choose whether you are going to list the scores by city or by team name. You are all over the place here.
Since you don't name the sport before the score, I would recommend using the team name.
Sean Avery is a better hockey player than that. Putting his hands in Brodeur's face was a bush league move.
Avery's work on the 5-on-3 was HILARIOUS! I've never seen a two-man advantage played like that. The best part was when Avery feigned like he was going to hit Marty in the head with his stick. "Two for flinching!"
hey Trinkle, great reporting!
why let some objectivism get in the way of a good opinion, you fucking schmuck?
can we get someone besides peter trinkle to write about sports? maybe someone who watches them and possibly reads what other people who actually know whats going on have to say about it?
the devils played like shit. they turned it up for the beginning of each period and then sat back like they always do against the rangers. they got lucky (multiple times last night)
