I do like his sculptures. BUT He killed a dog in the 70's? Not much about this atrocity, at all. He seems remoresful, but he in deed should be fully comited to animal rescue operations, or be a "piece of art" himself.

@Mr. Hogarty [11] Well said. Having been a fan of Tom Otterness, I was horrified to only now hear about this. Reading an acknowledgment of his own regret is comforting, but I think I'd enjoy the aesthetic of his work regardless. Readers might like to know that Mr. Otterness keeps a dog in his studio.

The regrets of a stupid youth weigh far more heavily on the individual than any guilt society could assign. If Otterness is the type of artist with an understanding of humanity that his work displays, he is probably more sick over that act than anyone could try to make him.

It is all fruit from a poison tree. Anyone who kills an innocent dog and calls it art is a sick bastard and anything that subhuman scum produces deserves to be dumped in the East River instead of venerated as art. There is a special place in hell for this asshole.

#[3] Wow. Most of us have done shameful things as art school creeps, but to have such an awful, unwashable plague on your resume... When asked (in an interview by Candice Bergen - found on his site) where he get's his inspiration from, he pauses and seems to want to say, "I am creating great whimsy for the world, hoping to somehow make up for this unforgivable bit of suffering I caused long ago, when I was an angry, talentless piece of shit". Still - I love his work - and I hope he contributes generously to animal rescue charities.

"Otterness": both a noun and an adjective. BTW I like his work a lot; especially that money bag at the 14th Street and 8th Ave subway station staircase that's polished by countless hands rubbing over it for good luck.

Jen and Jake, Why do you keep promoting this guy? Look up his "Dog Kill Piece" and maybe you'll change your mind. Why would an "artist" kill a defenseless dog? It makes no sense. If you're cat lovers replace the cat for a dog. Come on this guy has no remorse and his idiot "assistants" do all his work. Tom speak up!
