• Brewers 5, Mets 3: Mets fans that had waited two months -- or even longer -- to see Johan Santana make his Mets Shea Stadium debut left disappointed. Santana gave up five runs (four earned) and took his second loss of the year in three starts. Three home runs proved to be his undoing Saturday. He didn't get much help from the Mets bats, who, despite plating two in the first inning, once made 18 straight outs against Milwaukee's Ben Sheets. The teams play a rubber game tomorrow, with Oliver Perez taking the mound for the Mets against Jeff Suppan. That's the same matchup that took place in Game 7 of the 2006 National League Championship Series.


• Red Sox 4, Yankees 3: Joe Girardi left Mike Mussina in one batter too long. The righty, clinging to a one-run lead, had just struck out the slumping David Ortiz. But Manny Ramirez smoked a first-pitch double to right-center field, and that 2-1 advantage turned into a 3-2 deficit. The Yankees scratched across one more in the seventh and had first and second with two out in the eighth, but Alex Rodriguez struck out after fans waited 131 minutes during a rain delay. The rubber game comes Sunday night as Phil Hughes takes on Daisuke Matsuzaka.


• Nets 111, Bucks 98: Richard Jefferson had 24 and Vince Carter had 21 as the Nets played out the string with a win.


• FC Dallas 2, Red Bulls 0: Arturo Alvarez scored in the first minute -- exciting things do happen in soccer! -- and Dallas never looked back. New York is now 1-1 on the season.
