Audacity Award: Triple Parking

tripleparking.jpg
Picture of triple-parkers from Gerritsenbeach.net

Passing a vehicle across a double line in New York State is a 3-point offense. It's difficult to find out what the penalty is for parking across a double line. New Yorkers are overly familiar with egregious parking jobs, but GerritsenBeach.net had to admire the triple-parking job that some neighbors accomplished recently. Apparently, the diagonal hash marks on the left of the road indicated to one driver that the street was as good as a parking lot.

It also looks like that there are occupants in the left and middle cars, meaning that it's not even really parking, just vehicular meandering. How one would bypass this tri-lanx of cars to get to a destination without crossing into oncoming traffic seems like a mystery.

What a waste of a post. I want my 1kb broadband usage back. And my 30 seconds to read this stupid post.

Easy. Just drive on the sidewalk to the right. Like they do in Astoria.

Drag race or drug deal?

Both!

None of these cars looks parked at all. And they all have occupants. Boring & inaccurate post of the day award.

I'm from Gerritsen Beach and that's not unusual at all. Either the middle car was double parked, or the outside car honked to get their attention and they stopped to talk. It's incredibly obnoxious, but happens a lot. GB.net should be embarrassed for thinking they were parked. Do they not live in GB? Or do they just not drive? Or ride in a car?

As for Gothamist, this is fairly unusual for the rest of NYC, so post away.

And the usual response to being stuck behind it is to honk at them until they shut up and move.

It might be a boring post, but I only posted it as a picture, so yeah it might be boring.

I should be embarrassed? Ha! They were definitely triple parked, I was there for a few minutes so they we definitely triple parked, it was like a three way call.

God, what a waste of a post. Clearly they're not parked and just stopped to talk. What if the one on the left just stopped to bitch to the guy that is doubleparked. Or, even if they are stopped to chat, it's only annoying if there's a lot of traffic.

And.... crossing the double line is pretty standard driving when someone is stopped for whatever reason, as long as the coast is clear. If you stick strictly to every driving rule, you'll never get anywhere. NYC drivers know that and oblige- including cars in oncoming traffic.

(before you bitch, I use public transport for my daily commute)

GBNet: Parking involves turning off your engine. Their brake lights are on--they are standing (you know, like those signs that say "No Parking or Standing"). Not parked.

This is why I moved away from GB--I got tired of having to explain really basic things all. the. time.

I find it amusing since there is an empty parking spot behind them.

And the dumbing of society rolls on.

dumb post or not, i find it hilarious how people will complain about spending 30 seconds readong a post only to go on for twice as long about how boring it is, or why it was dumb to begin with.

ahh internet, home of amateur over-analysis of banal things, i love you.

[11] Bingo!
[7] Great pic; great site; hope you don't mind be dragged down into the muck.

Gerritsen Beach is a whole other world. Don't be surprised by anything that goes on there.
