Last Night's Action: Rangers Win Again, Yanks Beat Sox

  • Rangers 2 Devils 1: If you were under the impression that these teams like each other, this game should clear that misconception up. New York and New Jersey spent sixty minutes Friday hitting and scrapping and when it was all over the Rangers had a huge victory and a big advantage in the series.

Jaromir Jagr got things started with an amazing shot that beat Martin Brodeur off the short-side. Sean Avery scored only 23 seconds late off a nice wrist shot, beating his arch-enemy to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. New Jersey scored with under two minutes left, but Henrik Lundqvist kept them from tying the game and New York heads home up 2-0.

  • Yankees 4 Boston 1: If Bobby Abreu didn’t have a fear of outfield walls, Chien-Ming Wang would have pitched a one-hit shutout against the Red Sox. “Nancy” Drew’s flyball to right was the only blot on Wang’s ledger as he went the distance. The Yankees got a home run from Giambi and some big hits from Matsui and Molina to take home the win.
  • Mets 4 Brewers 2: Nelson Figueroa was brilliant and the bullpen didn’t allow a baserunner over three innings as the Mets used some timely hitting to beat Millwaukee.
  • Atlanta 116 Knicks 104: Say what you want, but Isiah is going to go out his way. Friday he used only eight players in the Knicks’ loss. One thing remained the same, the Knicks never want to play defense and they allowed the Hawks to shoot 55% on the night.
  • Toronto 113 Nets 85: New Jersey said goodbye to the playoffs without a fight, watching a 30-18 lead after the first quarter evaporate in a brutal third quarter.

solid wang crushes sox. baffles them with hard balls.

i knew abreu would trip up when he kept getting those fly balls. paul o'neill would have killed himself if he missed a fly like that.

The Rangers are beating the Devils (on the road) at their own game. I can't believe it. These teams should come with some kind of warning for fans with heart problems and women who are pregnant.
