DISCUSSION: The New York Public Library invites Pico Iyer, Time correspondent, friend of the Dalai Lama and author of The Open Road: The Global Journey of the XIV Dalai Lama, to sit amongst the books tonight. The conversation is to cover the latest news on Tibet and the Dalai Lama's complicated involvement in the struggle.

Friday // 7 p.m. // Humanities and Social Sciences Library [5th Ave and 42nd St] // $15

MUSIC: AIDS Wolf is playing a show at the Knitting Factory tonight, but then there's this cryptic listing for another show: "Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, Wolf with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, Rings, Knyfe Hytes, Golden Triangle." Deerhunter hasn't played live for a while, and Atlas Wolf is the singer in Bradford Cox's new band. Where's the show? Well, tickets are available at the Cinders Gallery. You're on your own after that...

Friday // 8 p.m. // Secret Location

EVENT: This Saturday the 3rd Ward's casa is your casa, as they invite one and all in for an open house. Gimme Coffee will be dispensing free caffeine, and cheap booze and BBQ will be provided. The best part though is the Art Swap, where you can bring your own piece of art to trade with someone else. Full schedule here.

Saturday // 11 a.m. // 3rd Ward [195 Morgan Ave, Bushwick] // Free

THEATER: The Left Out Festival continues through Monday at Stage Left Studio with solo shows, spoken word, performance art, and “faux drag queens." Today’s festivities culminate with the fabulous-sounding Miss Magnolia Beaumont Goes to Provincetown, “a southern girls guide to the gayest little seaside town on the east coast. After her untimely demise, Miss Magnolia Beaumont, debutante, finds herself stuck in the body of a thirty-something-year-old gay man heading to Provincetown, Massachusetts for a birthday vacation.” Martin Denton calls it “entirely charming and delightful.” – John Del Signore

Saturday // 9 p.m. // Stage Left Studio [438 West 37th Street, 5-A] // Tickets cost $15.

supine0804.jpgART: Last summer street artist Judith Supine made his mark on the Manhattan Bridge, and this weekend he's bringing his work indoors. Expect larger-than-life puppets, paintings and cutouts (like the one pictured) at his Bushwick installation, called "Dirt Mansion".

Saturday, Opening 5 to 9 p.m. // English Kills Gallery [114 Forrest St, Brooklyn] // Free

MUSIC: Singer/songwriter Dave Deporisa has curated a show this Saturday at a quaint little space called The Brooklyn Tea Party. Don't expect any crumpets, but a whole lotta music will be served up, including sets by Jaymay and a mysterious special guest.

Saturday // 7:30 p.m. // The Brooklyn Tea Party [175 Stockholm St, #303, Brooklyn] // $8 suggested donation

THEATER: Rapid Response Team takes “the world's slowest-moving art form and turns it on its head, forcing theater artists to quickly react to the massive onslaught of information from our media.” Each week they scan the headlines and create a multi-disciplinary show based on the best and weirdest current events. The raucous evening, which ranges from sketch comedy to song and dance, features some of the sharpest knives in the downtown theater drawer, Clay McLeod Chapman (The Pumpkin Pie Show) and Isaac Butler (Parabisis) among them. Tonight’s top stories include “Banning Cupcakes in Australia and “Why ‘The Tudors’ Sucks.” – John Del Signore

Sunday // 8 p.m. // Bowery Poetry Club [308 Bowery] // Tickets cost $10
