Last Night's Action: Same Score, Same Feeling

  • Phillies 5, Mets 2: In a game that was a microcosm of last season, the Mets held a lead against the Phillies before surrendering it in inglorious fashion. Entrusted with a 2-0 advantage in the seventh inning, Scott Schoeneweis -- who was booed during introductions -- allowed three runs and only recorded one out. Of course, he didn't get help from Carlos Delgado, who hit Chase Utley in the back on what may have been a double-play ball. Delgado did homer earlier off Jamie Moyer. Oliver Perez didn't look sharp but got through 5 2/3 scoreless innings.

  • Royals 5, Yankees 2: Not a game for those who like control pitchers. Phil Hughes couldn't get an out in the fourth and took the loss as the Yankees fell to 4-4. He walked four batters, same as Kansas City starter and ex-Met Brian Bannister. Alex Rodriguez donned the golden sombrero after his four strikeouts. It gets worse for the Yankees. Derek Jeter, who injured his quadriceps Monday, doesn't figure to be back before Friday's game in Boston at the earliest, and Jorge Posada's stiff shoulder may land him on the disabled list. He faces an MRI on Wednesday.

  • Knicks 98, Pistons 94: Isiah Thomas was honored before the game in Auburn Hills, Mich., as part of the all-time Pistons team. There is no question about his place on that mythical squad. As far as his place as coach of the Knicks, this won't hurt his cause. Wilson Chandler -- maybe he should have seen some more time earlier this season? -- scored 19 points, all in the first half, as the Knicks hurt their draft-lottery position.

Gonna give you up, gonna let you down
Gonna run around and desert you
Gonna make you cry, gonna say goodbye
Gonna tell a lie and hurt you
