I'm guessing parole violation, or maybe those 4 guys had really bad hands. What I'm trying to figure is what was going through guy #4's mind when his three compatriots are all sprawled out with broken bones in the alley. "Eh, maybe they'll break my fall."

Peter What if it violates conditions of parole or something like that? Being caught in a gambling den might not be so bad, but when combined with other things it might not be so great.

Even if they thought it was a police raid in progress, why jump out of upper story windows? It's not like participating in an illegal gambling operation is some heinous crime carrying long prison sentences.
