Atlantic City: the Hamptons for Hipsters?

Last month, word on the Boardwalk was that two former Atlantic City hotels (the Howard Johnson and Holiday Inn) would morph into a boutique hotel named the Chelsea (no relation). Further bringing a Manhattan feel to the has-been Jersey destination is the oft-celeb-drenched scene of Manhattan's Beatrice Inn; the club's operators, Paul Sevigny and Matt Abramcyk amongst them, have been charged with creating "a vibe." The collaboration had AC's Visitors Authority declaring, “The New York hipsters are coming to Atlantic City."

So will hipsters flock to Jersey this summer, as the well-heeled hit the Hamptons? More details and some renderings have just been released; the Jersey-chic boutique hotel stay will run you about $225 to $450 a night during the "high period." And with bars, lounges, a pool deck, restaurant, spa, game room and "living room" you'll never have to step outside the 331-room hotel and see the seedier side of "America's Playground".

Very tacky looks. A lot like the Manhattan Mall when it first opened.

Lame-ass.

Thanks Jen Carlson.

can hipsters pay 400 bucks a night? looks like they'll attract the meatpacking district crowd.

looks nice. If its' 200 a night. I'd stay there.

Tacky? How so. You ever been to Wildwood?

holiday inn is 200 hundy a night...

Gothamist, what's up with all these random photo posts lately?

The eventual midtown direct to Atlantic City train could in fact, make this a real hipster destination.

Maybe the hipsters will stay there and never come back!!!!! Whoo!

for some reason, i can always guess which articles are written by jen carlson just by reading the headlines.

100% of the time.

eerie, no?

Looks more like South Beach.

I don't understand what "hipsters" have to do with anything. Either people will come to the hotel or they won't.

Looks more like South Beach.

With fewer blocks to walk to get to the crack vendors!

"looks like they'll attract the meatpacking district crowd."

ugh
good riddance!

...I wonder if they will be serving a buffet breakfast of irony and smugness...
