Politburo, no I don't want you to post code. What I want you to do is stop being whiny within the comments (they are noisy enough as it is). For the record, I agree the new slideshow is klutzy. Take your complaint, and solution if you have one, to Jake. I don't know the guy but I assume he knows that a good reader experience results in more and repeat readers. If you've got an idea that better suits the site's needs I'd also assume he would at least listen to you.

@sraha: As for the high blogger turnout, sorry about that. I think it just stems from the fact that the Gothamist folks and I have made blogger friends through blogging and they ended up buying tickets. There's not much I can do about who can and can't buy tickets once I open up the sales window. I only hope us dorks didn't scare you away :(

@sraha: Adam from Slice here. You're absolutely right, and I apologize about the lack of MC/remarks at the beginning and throughout the event. I'd like to blame it on my shyness, but that doesn't cut it. ;) Next year, if we do another one, I'll make sure we have some sort of bullhorn/PA system to talk to folks and let them know about the demos and what's what. Also: I didn't realize vegetarians were suffering. I thought there were a number of non-meat pizzas coming out. Maybe next year we'll look at the feasibility of staggering pizzas so vegetarians don't starve.

this was a great event -- food was awesome, being near the bar was even better. BUT, wish there'd been some kind of mc or opening remarks from the slice/gothamist hosts. we didn't think any demos were going to happen and gave up after stuffing ourselves silly, i cannot tell you how sad i am to read that the cheese demo happened after me and my friends left at about 9:15 or so. also, there seemed to be a lot of bloggers and not many of us 'regular people'... and i felt bad for the two vegetarians next starving next to us.

Truffles weren't my cuppa, but there were some cute chicks there. I should have done the no crusts thing. This needed to be more interactive. Noone really spoke until the cheese demo.

There are only about a million sites that have managed to implement dynamic slideshows. You probably visit several every day. It's not exactly a novel or cutting-edge concept. Clicking another image in the slideshow reloads the page. It may not count as a sitemeter page view, but it does reload all of the ads (which is the point, from Gothamist's POV). And, depending on your browser, it may wipe the comment you have begun to draft.

Instead of shitting in this thread about last night's pizza party why not take your complaint directly to the publisher? If you have a better solution to the slideshows put it forward. Otherwise please shut up. Besides, the slideshows don't add more page views (check the sitemeter link at the bottom of the page).

Okay, we get it... the slideshows are a cheap way to increase your page views. How about we all agree to click reload 100 times and you replace the slideshows with a dynamic page using technology from this century.
