Marty Markowitz is Forever

040808markowitz.jpgPhoto courtesy New York Shitty.

Congestion pricing is toast, and so is Bloomberg’s “legacy,” so let’s start talking about the city’s next mayor. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz says he’s not yet made up his mind about running, but, judging from this peculiar photo, eliminating mayoral term limits must be at the top of his agenda. Or is "Marty for Life" just an innocent campaign slogan? If so, it’s a lot catchier than the one Markowitz recently tested out on a reporter: “Keep it safe, keep it clean, keep it working.” Keep it boring!

If elected, Markowitz says one of his first moves would be to press Washington to designate New York City “a national city” – though many New Yorkers would rather see New York secede. And lest you think Marty doesn’t stand a chance against Democratic rivals like Big Tony Weiner, Christine “Mighty” Quinn and William “Comptrol-freak” Thompson, consider the results of a February poll that put Marty in first place.

“a national city”

Love it, love it, love it.

What does that mean, "a national city?"

I think he needs to divorce his uber distaseful loud-mouthed wife first.

If by "national city" he means "stinky in the summer because some jerk left his garbage out", then I'm all for it!!

The National City project was former Mayor John Lindsay's pet project.

From Time Magazine, Jun. 21, 1971:
"New York's Mayor John Lindsay...said that the Federal Government should charter the largest urban centers in the U.S. as "national cities," with broader financial support from Washington and the power to deal directly with federal agencies instead of depending upon state legislatures dominated by rural and suburban interests."

Albany's got them beat.. they're an All-America City (whatever that means.. it's on some highway sign).

Marty's dead in the water in the mayoral race but he's digging his dream job as Bklyn BP. That's why when he says he wants to end term limits he's referring not to mayoral term limits but the borough president term limits. He wouldn't even be running for mayor if not for term limits.

Hello?

That's also the first time I've seen a Jew referred to as Big Tony.

'National city'? I think Marty Markowitz is the only likely mayoral candidate with sufficient lack of mental firepower to again make "Escape From New York" a real possibility. Look at what they did to Bloomberg. The Feds and state government will eat the little twerp alive.

Bloomberg was a legend before congestion pricing. Congestion pricing was for Bloomberg what the Wizards were for Michael Jordan.

Bloomberg for President 2012! Or at least Governor.

what's with all the microfonts?

Marty the next mayor of NYC? Highly unlikely. From what I was told by people that work for Marty, he's rather mean.

Bloomberg should go retire to his house in London. There he could enjoy his congestion pricing.

The NY secession movement is about the city seceding from the union not the state.

Trust me. Fat head Marty is not becoming mayor. He should be on a sitcom. He's about as smart as a door knob.
