• Devils 3, Rangers 2 (SO): Needing a win in regulation to secure home ice in the playoffs, the Rangers pulled out all the stops. Not even adding an extra skater by pulling Henrik Lundqvist could do the trick, however, and the Devils finally beat the Rangers. New Jersey had lost the first seven games between the clubs this season. Its reward for ending that streak? Getting home ice in the playoff series between the two clubs that starts Wednesday in Newark.
• Yankees 2, Rays 0: The Yankees still aren't hitting, but they escaped the season's first week at 3-3. Hideki Matsui had the only offense for either team by launching a two-run home run. Chien-Ming Wang went six-plus innings of shutout ball, and the bullpen tandem of Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera closed the door. This offense won't be kept down for long. The teams finish a four-game set Monday night.
• Braves 3, Mets 1: When Johan Santana takes the mound, the Mets are not invincible. He only gave up one run, but the Mets' bats couldn't solve John Smoltz and the rest of Atlanta's pitching. Ryan Church knocked in the only Mets run with a ninth-inning single. After an off-day, the Mets host the Phillies in their home opener Tuesday.
• Knicks 100, Magic 90: Wilson Chandler had 23 points as the Knicks snapped a five-game losing streak, their 61st such streak of the season.
