I think you've got a typo in the second to last paragraph; as I understand it, Gooksie was found cowering in the coal chute, as Mr. Gloves was found on the church steps. I'm really glad to hear that they were found. I live in the neighborhood and have seen the Gooksie signs in various shop windows.

I know some people will think this is a dumb article, but imagine being the owners of the cats. They must've thought their pets were dead, and now they return to their lives like magic. Two small reasons to not entirely hate the city that failed them.

I am happy the cats were found. Plenty of blame here for a lot of people including (lord forbid) the construction workers and their bosses.

Cats? That's what I'm reading about now? Cats? Has anyone said anything yet about the one non-construction worker who was killed? The young lady visiting from Miami, who the construction workers had no regard for when they found her body -- although they took off their hats and bowed their heads ceremoniously every time one of their own was found. They simply walked away when her body was found, making no gesture to the people (presumably her friends or family) who were waiting for news about her. Let's talk about humans.

Ms. Otway is a saint, and I speak from experience. She was a wonderful and compassionate cat sitter to my tabby for several years. She takes special care of a houseful of strays she's taken in over the years. Bless her heart for her amazing good deed.
