After Mother's Abuse, Baby is Brain Dead
A 7-week-old baby who has been beaten since he was just 2 weeks old is now brain dead at Elmhurst Hospital, after his mother admitted to beating her son and then dropping him on his head. And the Daily News reports that the Administration for Children's Services had visited mother Kiana Perez just two days before.
Perez, an ex-junkie whose first child was taken away by ACS but was allowed to keep baby Pablo because she had tested clean for three months, brought the baby to the hospital and claimed he had stopped breathing. But doctors found a number of injuries, including broken bones, and called the police. From the News:
The mom told authorities Pablo was just 2 weeks old when she grabbed him with such force she broke eight of his ribs, sources said. A month later, he still had fingernail imprints on his chest. An ACS caseworker had visited on Tuesday, and the News' law enforcement source says, "The ACS workers were shocked when they found out what happened. They were crying...But good Lord, how do you miss a baby with a broken leg and broken ribs? It's mind-blowing."Paez didn't take Pablo to the hospital, so he had to endure the pain while the ribs healed.
But his mom didn't want to hear him cry, and one day as he wailed, she angrily hurled him across the room onto a bed, breaking his leg, she told cops. Again, Paez sought no help for the child, sources said.
Perez was charged with attempted murder. ACS has undergone a number of changes after Nixzmary Brown's and other children's deaths occurred while their parents were under ACS investigation, and recently launched a campaign to recruit child protection specialists. And April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Someone should throw her across the room and break her f...... head. After that they should throw her in a dumpster, or shred her in a chipper and flush the remains down the toilet. Also the ACS people who followed this case should have the same thing done to them.
So sad.
Animals like this need to be sterilized.
@tblake:
I sometimes wish we lived in one of those Orwellian, futuristic societies ruled by martial law where the government would take people like this and perform hysterectomies against their will. That would be cool.
This story made me so mad and upset--this child never had a chance. And the ACS probably should have done more, but ACS workers have difficult, demanding, almost thankless jobs, being overworked and underpaid while trying to navigate these situations. I don't envy them.
Goddammit. She's not human. She underwent nine months of pregnancy so she could treat a helpless baby like shit? This and the Nixzmary Brown case and others like it make me ill. She should not live.
Animals like this need to be sterilized.
If by "sterilized" you mean "executed" then we're on the same page. It works the same way.
The poor baby knew a life of nothing but pain. I hope she gets painfully killed in prison.
And ACS didn't take the kid from her on Tuesday? What the hell do they need to see to warrant removing a child?
When will Homo sapiens be evolved enough to really discuss involuntary sterilization as a means of suffering reduction? This discussion would be free from religious faction and "morality superstars".
It needs to happen and it's already too late.
Ronkonkoma Ondinnonk - Couldn't agree more.
I think this woman was so incredible dumb, emotionally lacking, and selfish. She really needs to be examined, not executed. I'd rather discover something we could use to stop a similar situation in the future from this piece of trash, than have her wiped from existence.
And, who were her parents? They should be part of it. What the F is wrong with them?
This baby was only 7 weeks, not 7 months, old-- as stated in your opening sentence. Essentially then, he knew ONLY a life of pain. Just 6 short months ago they (ACS) removed her first child from her home when she demonstrated that she was too high to adequately care for that baby; they noted that she was obviously pregnant at that time. Pablo was born on Feb. 8th, 2008. In this instance (post-delivery), when she was tested for drugs at the hospital, she had been clean for a mere 3 months. So what happened with "the system" this time?? Did they opt to simply forgive and forget?!?!? Huh???
I could care less that the ACS workers cried when they found out that Pablo had been murdered by his mother. In so many ways the blood was largely on THEIR hands, as well. (Accessories before the fact??) The mandate of parental sobriety had not been sufficiently proven nearly long enough, nor with any sort of consequence for her, particularly after losing her first kid. Where was the continuity of supervision for her AND for her children?? Many of you are, indeed, spot-on: mandatory sterilization should NOT be immediately dismissed as too cruel and too uncivilized to be (even) considered. It's STILL far too generous an outcome for the likes of this bottom dwelling, emotionless, utterly selfish, and devolved beast. Nothing that a few good, well attended, enthusiastically advertised, public stonings couldn't help but improve.
Not Mocking the death of an infant, in any way....
Why, Why, why do these stories always come up around income tax time?
We have probably paid for that murdering mother from the time before she was born, her housing, her short schooling, her healthcare, her deliveries of her abused offspring, her food stamps, her WIC, her probations, and her travel to visit the various "fathers of her babies" in greybar hotels around the state. We will now pay for her prosecution, her defense, her incarceration, probably even some high-priced expert witness to claim she did it out of "post-partum" depression.
Don't bother with all the above. Heist her ovaries, & dump her on the street with a lifelong "no benefits or services" sentence.
See how long that leeching murderous piece of trash survives.

Nothing stirs more anguish then that of infants and children being abused by monster parents or other adults. Either this kind of news is being reported more often or these occurrences are happening more frequently. Either way it is a clear sign of the state of american Urban society. Once the ACS took kids away and they were criticized for this. Now they fail to take kids away and they are criticized. THe ACS workers are not at fault. It is the process and the workings of the ACS system that are terribly inadequate. Here is a perfect example.
Years ago, and not to say this still does not happen, there were untold numbers of deaths in hospitals due to drug errors committed by Nurses and Doctors. Blame always seem to fall to the people who last touched the drugs. But some smart people decided to analyze the systems in place that get the medications from the Dr.s head into the patients body. Numerous problems were discovered. The system was revamped and the number of medication errors fell by a significant amount saving countless lives.
ACS needs to undergo the same systems analysis to ferret out the process issues and redesign how it will operate. Obvious the leaders of this agency have not yet done so.
WE people who suffer reading of these atrocities should not blame the workers for their efforts within a faulty system. I dare any of you who so vituperatively condemn them to spend a single day out in that field with them. Until then, shut up and learn, Stop the knee-jerk emotional ranting that get us nowhere. In other words, grow up.
And to think that I, a women who wants nothing more than a healthy beautiful baby that cries in the night, had a miscarriage.
Some people do not deserve to be parents. This woman makes me ill. Lock her up. Now.
Break her ribs and her leg, and give her no medical treatment.
