Bill & Hillary Clinton Made $109 Million for 2000-2007

2007_4_clintontax.jpg

Former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton have released their tax returns for the years 2000 through 2007, showing they made $109 million during that period. Senator Clinton's campaign website details the money this way:

Gross income: $109,175,175, which includes:
* Senator Clinton's Senate Salary: $1,051,606
* President Clinton's Presidential Pension: $1,217,250
* Senator Clinton's Book Income: $10,457,083
* President Clinton's Book Income: $29,580,525
* President Clinton's Speech Income: $51,855,599
Charitable Contributions: $10,256,741
Taxes Paid: $33,783,507
Clinton campaign spokesman Jay Carson's statement also says, "The Clintons have now made public thirty years of tax returns, a record matched by few people in public service. None of Hillary Clinton's presidential opponents have revealed anything close to this amount of personal financial information. " As Politico's Ben Smith points out, there's still $18 million of the Clintons' income that's not accounted for.

While in Memphis today, for the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, Clinton said she wanted to create a cabinet-level position of a poverty czar.

Now was that so hard, Hillary? The more they sat on this information the more everyone speculated as to what they were hiding, even if they weren't hiding anything at all. It's like they learned nothing from Whitewater.

CHA CHING!

Somebody needs to write another book!

Senators make 1MM/year? That seems a little excessive for a civil servant. Shit, the pres only makes what, 225k?

Strange - a quick Wikipedia search shows that the salary for a Senator is under 200k. How is her pay adding up to 1MM?

bloomberg makes almost 100K as mayor and he only takes home, literally, 2¢ because by law he has to take something. the rest he donates back into the city.

That's the total salary she earned as Senator over the past several years combined.

President Clinton's Speech Income: $51,855,599

I wonder what that works out to per syllable?

"bloomberg makes almost 100K as mayor and he only takes home, literally, 2¢ because by law he has to take something. the rest he donates back into the city."

If he donates it back into the city that's a deduction that lowers his taxable income. If he's in the highest tax bracket (is he?), the deduction saves him money (a lot more than the "literally" 2 cents). So, no, he doesn't take home "literally" 2 cents.

Why does any normal human being need that much money!!

Pretty tame comments thus far. Can't help but wonder what the response would be if this were McCain's or Giuliani's. Nobody is curious about the $15 million or so from the Cayman Island investment fund? And Hillary's website is essentially bragging that their overall tax rate was about 31% while most in their income range pay about 20% when deductions kick in. In other words they are saying the took fewer deductions. I'm not so sure that is to be admired because the cynic in me says they didn't want to put down anything that would be fodder for criticism. Besides, Bill has a license to print money anyway. He can just make it up later especially if Hillary loses the nomination.

"Poverty czar"??? Isn't that a sort of oxymoron? Should be something more along the lines of "Poverty Investigator" or "Poverty Exterminator" or "Poverty Zapper." No?

What would be more interesting is how much they paid in taxes, and how much they DIDN'T pay and why. What did they write off?

The Clinton.s made their money.
John McCain married his.
Some of the charity the Clintons gave was to
the Clinton Library,kinda like giving your mirror
a gift.

Hah, how sad is that. Live Nation values a dude who raps about his life hustlin' at $15m a year, but "the [former] most powerful person on earth" (Wikipedia: "President of the United States") and his wife combined make a little over $13m.

She can create whatever she wants. Too bad she ain't getting the job.

Obama 08.

Personally, I'm not surprised at this information. Hillary is very close with lobbyists and if she does what they want, she and Bill reap the benefits in investment income.

The story is the same with many Republicans in power (Cheney, Bush, etc).

Who wants to represent the American people not the heads of corporations?

WHITE HOUSE CLEANUP

The Clintons took in more than a hundred mil

That's gone into their post-presidential till.

They tithed--to the Bill & Hillary Foundation dome.

Truly, charity begins at home.
