Yankee Fans Arrested for Stealing Bunting

2008_04_yankstad.jpgTwo Yankees fans were nabbed on Tuesday night after they tried to steal the stadium's opening day bunting. John Bunjaporte, 41, and Kevin O'Rourke, 39, were seen allegedly trying to remove screws from the upper deck decorations after the home opener.

Yankees COO Lonn Trost issued a statement, "This type of destructive behavior will not be tolerated from the first game of the season through the last." Even though bunting has been stolen in previous years, the Yankees mean business: They revoked Bunjaporte's and O'Rourke's season tickets.

The pair were also charged with petty larceny and criminal mischief. It's unclear if they will be banned for life from the old and new stadiums, which is the punishment (plus three years probation) received by a fan who fell into the foul ball netting in 2005.

i can see this happening a lot this season.

So not worth the price they paid after getting caught. They should've asked the Stadium management of there was any chance that the bunting could be bought afterwards.

Let's see...the Steinbrenner pere et fils can charge $8.50 for a watery beer, $25 for a yearbook (yes, $25) and $50 for a 'commemorative' Yankee Stadium photo book, but fans, paying $100 for semi-obstructed seats can't steal from him? Where's the justice in this?

seems like the Yankees could have dealt with this differently. Revoking season tickets and charging criminally seems a bit much.

The Post story says that the Yanks will take this stuff seriously this year because they plan at the end of the year to auction off everything in the stadium that they possibly can. So as usual, it's the money.

What's with the attitude on the previous few posts suggesting that the action by these morons was OK? Jackasses like this make it worse for all of us. Wanna a souvenir? Buy a friggin t-shirt. Stop complainin' about how expensive everything is. If it is, then why are you spendin' your money on it?

Hey JP, it's called sarcasm.
I might criticize the Steinbrenners, but I go to 18 games a year (albeit at $5 a ticket and bring my own dinner).

famdoc: Little defensive? Seriously, I understand the sarcasm but I'm a season-ticket holder and have been for years and incidents like this make the whole experience a pain-in-the-ass for everyone.

Auction everything off so only the millionaires and billionaires are allowed to have things from Yankee Stadium.

Everything is always about the green paper.

hey, JP...your season tickets are going to cost at least $80,000 in the new Yankee Stadium. Look way up in the tier level and wave hello to me.

famdoc: Look up?!?! Hell - I'll probably be right next to you!!!
