Actually they have no proof that the bomber actually rode a bicycle. They assumed from the footage that there was some activity near the scene that perhaps an individual spotted leaving the scene riding a bike was involved in the bombing. I know where inspector Clouseau is, but where is Kojak or Columbo now that we need them?

Maybe I missed the part where they explained this a couple weeks ago, but could anyone please tell me exactly WHY the police believe this bike was ridden by the culprit? Other than the bomber was riding a bike and they found this one in a dumpster kinda near Times Square. is there anything else?

GET REAL! The cops found an abandoned bike in a dumpster. How in the hell can they trace that bike back to the incident? Are there some nitrate deposits left on the frame? These guys are way too much watching CSI. If they can read the word Ross on the frame from surveillance cameras wouldn't you think they would have a good picture of the person who dropped off the package? Also what evidence is there that the biker was the bomber? Dumb cops looking for some street cred.

Well, er, um … actually as far as police work goes this isn’t too bad. That bike hasn’t been manufactured since like 1985. If it is clean with newly wrapped handlebars that means it’s been SOMEWHERE for a while and someone knows the bike. It is a cheap-ass, crap, throwaway bike (note the one-piece crank – garbage) so pretty much ideal for a drive by/bike by type crime. Leaving aside the strange decision to throw the bike in the trash (maybe he was being followed?) I think our bomber was pretty smart. I’ll wager that his prints aren’t on the thing at all. That leaves whoever sold it to him. Maybe they think that gestures like this – while I am in sympathy with the bomber’s views on violence and war – could result in injuries to others and as such are in fact you know CRIMES. In which case the seller might recognize the bike and say “hey!” You never know.

Why would someone throw a perfectly good bike in a dumpster if it was used in a crime? Wouldn't it be easier to just lean it up against a light pole and let the normal street thieves take it? I feel sorry for the bike. It will end up its days in some police storage facility, alone and abandoned, never seeing the affects of congestion pricing.
