ART: Last summer, photographer and friend of Dash Snow, Ryan McGinley shot 4,000 rolls of film all over the U.S. with a troupe photogenic friends (and presumably no one brought clothes on this roadtrip). Tonight, 50 of those images (one is pictured) will be revealed at the opening of his "I Know Where the Summer Goes" show.
6 p.m. // Team Gallery [83 Grand St] // Free
EVENT: We've often recommended going to Nerd Nite, aka "the Discovery Channel with beer." Tonight, however, is an extra special nerd fest because the topic at hand is New York history (and, apparently, dinosaurs). Popular Science will be on hand documenting tonight, so polish up those lenses before heading over.
MUSIC:The Silver Seas are a little bit country, a little bit rock n' roll and, why not, even a little bit pop. They'll be delivering all their sounds, simultaneously, on stage at Union Hall tonight. Also on the lineup: Red Orange Morning and The Postelles.
8 p.m. // Union Hall [702 Union St, Park Slope] // $8
COMEDY: Tonight Max Silvestri's "I Like Attention" show turns 10 (months, that is). He notes that gas was only $3.22 a gallon back when he began entertaining the masses, and "now it is like $3.49 a gallon." Come help him celebrate (his show, not the rising gas prices), along with house band Sigmund Droid, and comedians: Leo Allen, Brett Gelman, Dave Hill, Pete Holmes and Kumail Nanjiani. Patrick Borelli and Jon Benjamin may also be on hand, but you'll have to show up to find out.
8 p.m. // Sound Fix Records [110 Bedford Ave, Williamsburg] // $5 suggested donation UPDATE: 6:15 p.m. --Sound Fix has been shut down by the Department of Health, and the show is canceled.
THEATER: You might think the Colbert Report is the only thing worth schlepping all the way to 54th Street and 10th Avenue for, but Peter Sinn Nachtrieb’s brilliant play Boom would merit a commute from Montauk. Full of surprises we won’t reveal here, the story starts off as a funny blind date between a seemingly lusty journalism student and a seemingly off-kilter marine biologist. But the colorful tale soon dives off the deep end, plunging to absurd yet truthful depths on the strength of a talented three-member ensemble. Read the full review and buy tickets before Boom blows away next weekend. – John Del Signore
