Last Night's Action: An Easy Win

  • Mets 13 Marlins 0: The game is the good news as the Mets pounded out 17 hits against Florida in an easy win. Ryan Church got it started with a home run in the second and David Wright also added his first shot of the year. Oliver Perez looked very good, striking out eight over six innings.

The bad news came from Pedro Martinez who is out 4-to-6 weeks with what is being described as a “mild strain” of his hamstring. What that means is Martinez is definitely out for April, but beyond that is impossible to tell. El Duque told SNY before the game that he needs three rehab starts in the minors, so he could be back in the rotation around April 20th.

  • Toronto 5 Yankees 2: This is probably a good example of what to expect from Mike Mussina this year. Moose gave up 8 hits 2 walks and four runs, looking good at times and struggling at times. A-Rod belted a home run, but he couldn’t deliver when the Yankees got the tying runs on in the ninth. Alex struck out, Giambi flied to center and Cano popped out to left, stranding the runners and ending the game.
  • Devils 3 Boston 2 (shootout): The Devils rallied in the third, tied the game and Zach Parise won it in the shootout. The two points give the Devils a solid hold on fourth place in the conference, a spot they will clinch with one more point.

Honestly, 4-6 weeks is probably as good as the Mets could've hoped for.
