SJP Warns Future Carries: NYC is Pricey

0804sjp.jpgFirst Madonna dissed New York City, calling it "boring," and now Miss Sex and the City herself is saying it's "not what it used to be." Sarah Jessica Parker may actually be doing us all a favor, however, by discouraging the inevitable flock or Carrie Bradshaw-wannabees from moving to the Big Apple after The Big Movie comes out later this year.

SJP told the Daily News that Manhattan is "a really hard city, and it's very expensive and it's not what it used to be. That's why the outer boroughs are so desirable." But hold that chin up high future Carries, she adds that New York "still is the place with a lot of promise and a lot of potential. And if you have the constitution and you manage to stick it out, it's well worth every obstacle and every stumbling block."

Even though her show made places like Brooklyn seem undesirable and ugly, the 2008 Carrie may think "the outer boroughs are pretty sexy," at least, that's what SJP declares -- she even included that "it's just a matter of time before they have their own shows."

there goes the neighborhood!

that big nose horseface should shut up and take those other three old bags with her

Someone who was voted the unsexiest celebrity shouldn't be commenting on what's sexy. Then again, maybe the Carrie wannabes from Ohio will moved to Brooklyn or even better Staten Island instead.

i got three words for ya, seabiscuit: "welcome back kotter".

I see Mr. Ed but where's Wilbur???

Not only is she unsexy, she's a liar, too. First she tells the press she's okay with it, "sticks and stones" and all that. Then a few months later, she said it really, really hurt when she was chosen. One of those has to be a lie.

Yikes. We've got some mean lady-haters here.

"...it's very expensive and it's not what it used to be. That's why the outer boroughs are so desirable..."

Really SJP? Could it just be thanks to you and that stupid show that brought every little doe-eyed, blog writing-wannabe here from Suburbia? Them and their hedgefunder boyfriends to buy up the condos that have displaced everyone else? Could it be that show that helped spawn all these overindulgent, cupcake-eating Carrie Bradshaw wannabes to flit down the cobblestone streets now, and get in the way?

It's not a 'hard' city, SJP. It used to be a 'hard city' because you really needed to have the fortitude to make it here. If you could 'make it here, you could make it anywhere.' Now it seems all you need to make it is a well-funded bank account, fortitude be damned.

She is indeed a mighty steed of a woman, but she's right you know.

I tried, again to watch that show. I can't make it through 15 mins of that crap. I can believe how some nerds would find her attractive, the same one's who find Sara silverman or lisa loeb attractive.
but she will always be pulling that budweiser cart to me.

[12], at least the script for the show is very well written though. I'm impressed everytime I watch it. The puns and word play are pretty clever.

I appreciate scripted tv. Can't stand reality tv.

I hate to break it to you, Pharmer, but there is no difference between the two.

Sure there is. One has writers and the other doesn't. I watch tv just for the script.

I guess I should stick to books? =/

I think SJP is not the cutest girl in the world, but she's definitely not the worst-looking either. I'll also add that being sexy is not the same as being pretty.

While I'm at it, I'll also stick up for Sara Silverman -- she's cute and funny, definitely sexy.

Trust me eyekantspel, she's a dog. Saw her twice & she's nothing near of a beautiful, radiant blonde from a magazine cover. Short & skinny with stringy, dirty looking hair.

SJP resembles Dee Snyder from Twisted Sister.

Sara is a different story.

"While I'm at it, I'll also stick up for Sara Silverman -- she's cute and funny, definitely sexy."

I respectfully disagree.

I would remove your adjectives and add mannish, obnoxious and ugly

I'd just about reached my limit last saturday and had seriously considered defiling a baked good right in front of those huddled masses crowed up for cupcakes in front of Magnolia. Maybe that would clear up the treet corner and I could drop off my laundry in peace. It's like the entire uppereast side just migrated south over the last decade. Thanks, SJP.

@VanessaNYC
Agreed, too much lady hating.

SJPs a good neighbor and did not personally invite those interlopers into our hood - no matter how annoying they are!

Also SJP could not be confused with Dee Snider. He has a much fuller pony tail and a glitzier wardrobe.

I can't understand how you people think that because you don't agree with what SJP says, that means you can bash her appearance. What does one have to do with the other, exactly?

I don't agree with Rush Limbaugh. And he's fat and ugly. They're mutually exclusive, misogynist morons.

Also: NYC was founded by and thrives on people who weren't born there, so stop the transplant bashing already. It's ignorant.

I hate what it's becoming too, but again, get your facts straight about who's to blame. It's not farm girls from Ohio, idiots.

Hey Sarah, why the long face?

Florent's closing is all her fault!

Sex and the City was the most idiotic chick-crap show I ever saw. She should be ashamed of herself for being in it, and encouraging dumb chicks everywhere to be even dumber chicks than they ever dreamed they could be.

@Pharmer: If you think reality tv's not scripted, I've got a bridge to sell you. Three of them even!

Oh boo hoo Tingo (#19). You can't drop off your dirty drawers "in peace" but for the legion of S&TC fans lining up for giant mouthfuls of cake frosting. Upper East Side (girls) in your neighborhood? Maybe the ones that have access to the Wayback machine!!

Granted it was 15 years ago, but SJP was definitely hittable in "Striking Distance" with Bruce Willis. I'm into mature porn, so I'd still stick it in her dumper. It's whatever.

Now really? Coming from the embodiment of the end of our great city-the person symbolically responsible for the scourge of New York-all those "Fancy" women crowding the sidewalk head down typing on their Blackberries.

@ Tingo

"Now it seems all you need to make it is a well-funded bank account, fortitude be damned."

I'm pretty sure that's always been the case, no? If you have enough money, you're not really "making it", now are you?

Tingo, if you are a woman, will you let me buy you a drink? Hell, I'll buy you a drink even if you're a man, such is my total support of your stance. Personal example of the Upper East Sideification of downtown: I remember when 7B used to be somewhat of a rough bar. But a few years ago there, I accidentally brushed against someone at the bar and they were like, "Excuse you." What!? This is 7B! Crocodile Dundee pulled a knife on people here!

It's SJPs fault that the subways are overcrowded with backpackers and mansitters. Boo SJP, booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

anyone referring to the upper east sideification of new york probably moved here from ohio, but they did so about 10 years ago so they think they are a true new yorker now. the upper east side got smashed by condos and what not just like everywhere else. up until the 90s it was a totally different place.

Exactly: The Upper East Sideification (i.e., what happened to the Upper East Side) of New York. The boring spread of condos and richness at the expense of color and vitality.

And it's Arkansas, actually, thanks.

Why should any comments about some person's opinion be weighted by how you think she looks? It sounds like junior high on here.

I think she's pretty sexy, but then again, I'm gay, so I guess that means I have no aesthetic taste...

Wrong, fishfryin. Born and raised in Little Italy (not like it exists anymore, nut I still like the area). Rarely even go to the outer boroughs. I'd got to Jersey one day but I lost my passport. Where are you from?

Then again, that doesn't matter. NYC is all about people relocating here, I agree. But it's about what TYPE of people are coming. It wasn't always about having money and the suburbanites who are 'happy it's safe enough to come' now. The history of NY has been the hungry, hardworking, or creative. Or at least, the characters and the uniqe. Look around now, we have lost that. If you lived here for as long as I have and others, you'd see that as clear as day.

In the MePathetic district, things really started changing there after that show. And when the guy who owned all the property in teh area died. Sure, it was grimey and a bit run down before, but honestly...at least it was real.
