Bet the GOP is real proud of this guy.

And, I suppose, his district is, too... since they now have the distinction of being represented by the dumbest man in Congress.

The following is from Issa's own site...

"Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Vista) hailed a unanimous vote by the California Costal Commission earlier today that will allow the Army Corps of Engineers to move forward with plans to operate and maintain the San Luis Rey River Flood Control Project..."

Oh wait a minute...people who didn't ask to get respiratory disease and cancers when they helped out at Ground Zero wouldn't get any help from the Federal Govt that was partly responsible for thier plight, yet people in Issa's district get the Army Corps of Engineers? Um....isn't the Army a Federal agency, funded by Federal dollars? So...aren't his constituents being helped by Federal money? Hey, Issa...its just a river, it floods, thats what rivers do on occasion...its simply a river...

I've shaken Weiner's hand and it's proportionally pretty big for his body, like his nose is for his face. He could probably put a good haymaker on this wimp.

Weiner for Mayor!

I don't see what Issa's beef is.

To begin with, had LA been the target of a terrorist attack similar in magnitude to 9/11, I doubt he would be refusing federal monies to pay for the aftermath.

Secondly, with so much being spent on the Iraq War, what is a few million (hell, maybe a billion or two) dollars for a real cause (helping first responders who gave a lot that day and in the subsequent months).

I know that some people will point to my remark about a "real cause" and say that I mean that the troops deserve less money. That's not what I am saying at all. The war itself is a sham and the effort has been underfunded from the beginning. We've fucked ourselves because we did not go into it 100% (though I would argue we should not have gone into it at all) and now we're stuck. Something as risky as a war is like jumping a bridge: either you don't do it or, if you have to do it, you go full speed. If you go half speed, then you're just fucking yourself in the end.

Representative Darrell Issa made a douchebag commment, and I doubt he speaks for the Republican party, California, or even his constituents on this one.

Instead of getting all pissy about it, though, we should probably thank him, because I have little doubt that his comments will unite enough people against him to help the city get more money from the federal government.

I would have a lot more respect for Weiner if he actually DID punch the guy instead of just saying he wanted to. Weiner is good at grabbing opportunities to get in front of the camera, usually for softball issues or after something bad happens. I don't like him, but he's got good political timing.

Bottomless Chips is right. US foreign policy played such a huge part in this, and the subsequent attack was a result of a lack of foresight and security on the federal level.

If it happened to an American-owned property in an overseas city, would that country's city be responsible?

I love how its always up to NYC to pay for everyone else problems and mistakes.

Maybe he needs an airplane to land on his front lawn to get the message.

I agree with the Representative from CA. It's not the federal taxpayer's responsibility to pay for crises in NYC 7 years after the fact.

This goes for Katrina and OK City, too. FEMA and such is a good idea on paper, but like most agencies, they fail and costs billions of dollars, dollars that could've been saved and spent on insurance or saved by the tax payers.

However, the federal government was responsible for our foreign policy that led to 9/11, so you could argue that they should pay for the clean up.

I would also like to request my neighbor's brother and friend's father back, since they in no way were alerted to the American foreign policy decisions which helped to create 9/11. Thanks Congressman Dickhole!

It's funny just how far down the nine levels of Hell the Republicans have fallen since Abe Lincoln. Or maybe it's sad. Or both.

Hey, Congressman Weiner... give him a shot in the mouth for me, too! Man! These repugnant republicans are always using the images of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11 in their campaign material and as a twisted way of making Democrats look bad (excuse me for inserting a few facts, but on Sept. 11, 2001:
President - republican
Senate Majority - republican
Congressional Majority - republican
New York Governor - republican
New York Mayor - republican
Supreme Court Majority - republican)
but when it comes to actually halping the barve men & women who were there to help others???? Typical republican scum: I've got mine, f___ you!
