Clinton, Obama Don't Like Mario Cuomo's Idea

2008_03_mariocuomo.jpgOver the weekend, the Boston Globe published an opinion piece by former governor Mario Cuomo. He said to avoid "a Democratic disaster in November," Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama should put aside their bitter rivalry and form a ticket together, so their supporters will be relatively happier (and less divisive). Otherwise, "the 2008 primary may be the story of a painfully botched grand opportunity to return our nation to the upward path, and leave us mired in Iraq and government mediocrity."

Naturally, neither campaign is very interested. Obama's spokeswoman said, "It is too early and too presumptuous to focus on the vice presidential selection." And Clinton's campaign said, "Discussions like this are premature because this is an historic campaign, and Democrats are more energized than ever, and there are millions of voices yet to be heard...Unlike the Obama campaign, we think everyone's vote should count, and we shouldn't end the race until [everyone] has had a chance to vote."

And, naturally, Cuomo is disappointed by their reactions.

Damn straight. Hills needs to re-evaluate her standings before suggesting OR refuting running with BO. Or, she can drop out and make everyone's lives less complicated.

Mario has been irrelevant for years.

    Obama shot her down too???

more profiles in courage- first sniper fire, then Obama!

Didn't Hillary suggest this weeks ago? And Obama shot her down?

Jen, Hillary essentially suggested that Obama could be her running mate even though she is behind in both the delegate count and the popular vote.

Unlike the Obama campaign, we think everyone's vote should count, and we shouldn't end the race until [everyone] has had a chance to vote.
Hillary was quite happy to agree that Michigan and Florida wouldn't count until it turned out that she might need those delegates more than she originally expected.

so obama and oprah didn't drag down the party? they both got in each others way, really.

"Her political career will soon be over."

    Let's hope so.

Also I am amazed the people of New York let a transplant born in Chicago, married in Arkansas and spent her husband's political life in Washington as their Senator.

Hillary doesn't care about the Democratic Party, she only cares about herself. SHe must be hating Obama, because if it weren't for him, she'd be the nominee by now. She will drag down the party and if the Republicans win in November, it's all her fault. Her political career will soon be over.

A Clinton-Obama or Obama-Clinton would come with twice the problems, not twice the benefits.

  • babyhitler

There are 2 possibilities to this. Either Clinton and Obama are too arrogant to see that they are both single handedly doomed against McCain or I have a sinking feeling that maybe clinton and obama are in cohoots together. They may have a private gentleman's agreement where the loser of a certain time period, say june or july agrees to become vice president and this turn of events sweeps them both into the white house in a deluge of good will from their parties and they ride the wave of publicity from it, dwarfing McCain and anything the republicans can do. The second possibility would only happen if only the democrats were at all smart or have common sense. Sadly, I don't think the second possibility will ever happen.

Oh this was published in the globe. The Time Magazine image threw me off.

Is it really? both too early and too presumptuous? How can you be too presumptuous, I mean if you are presumptuous in the first place, isn't that already too presumptuous? And this too early thing, I agree, chill out, have a pina colada.

I didn't know Obama didn't want everyone to vote, or everyone's vote counted. Shame on him. Here we are thinking he is such a great guy and then behind our backs he is discounting our votes. Geez.

What, huh? How much coffee does this person drink, and how does this in any way address the question?

    When pigs fly...

"The Hill" wants it all and she will not play second fiddle to BO or anyone and neither will he.

  • matty

Neither would go for it and this was discussed over a month ago.

Kind of a pointless article by Time magazine.
