
- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a pedestrian struck at 71st St. and Myrtle Ave. in Queens, a stabbing on the 2 train at 110th St. and Lenox Ave. in Manhattan, and the Wachovia Bank branch on 70th St. and Broadway in Manhattan was robbed.
- When the MTA raised fares while promising increased service . . . Don't hold your breath suckers.
- Acting like a politician is probably more fun than being one, and likely pays better as well. Fred Thompson knows which side the grass is greener on.
- When guys are illegally posting signs for a hiphop label late at night and they tell you to stop taking pictures or they'll break your camera, it doesn't matter if you tell them you work for The New York Times. They'll kick your ass and break your camera anyway.
- A rep for Graydon Carter's Waverly Inn accused ex-girlfriend and mother of Mick Jagger's child, Luciana Morad, of placing a giant cockroach in her hair and then dropping it on the table in order to get a free meal. Her lack of bloodcurdling scream is probably proof enough that she planned the whole thing.
- Some are nervous about the Pope coming to NYC given Osama bin Laden's recent threats against him. "It could stir up some wacko who wants to get attention," said Fr. Robert O'Connor.
- The wife of City Councilman Domenic Recchia was attacked in Brooklyn while exiting her car on the way to work. An ex-con from Manhattan appeared with his pants already down and forced her back into her car. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
- WFUV will be trotting out its new station's format with "This is Only a Test" tonight from 10 p.m. to midnight at 90.7 FM. It's a two-hour opportunity for the station to display the format, get reader feedback, and then adjust before the full launch of the new station.

He freaking well SHOULD. In fact, if I were his boss at the Times I would require him to do so. What happened was a criminal assault and should be prosecuted as such.
