Designers Sought for Hudson Yards Park & Boulevard

As the MTA prepares to announce on Wednesday the winning design for the 26 acre Hudson Yards development, a search is underway for firms to design the park and boulevard to be located at the site. The Mid-Block Park & Boulevard (MB Park & Boulevard) will consist of 4 acres of “broad tree-lined parks and open space” and will run north-south between 10th and 11th avenues, ultimately stretching from 33rd Street to 39th Street.

The boulevard will be 30 feet wide and all the new commercial buildings constructed along it will be required to have an entrance on the boulevard. And the planned extension on the No. 7 subway line will have a principal entrance in the MB Park between West 33rd and West 34th Streets. According to the Post, funding for the project is coming out of the $3 billion in bonds the city is selling to pay for the No. 7 extension.

Construction of the first phase, between West 33rd and West 36th Streets, is expected to be complete by 2012. Phase two, between West 36th and West 39th Streets, will eventually connect to West 42nd Street on the north via a pedestrian bridge, depicted here in the city’s sketch. Want more?
